Great book but probably preaches to the choir
For me, this was a great read in that I would like to improve myself and my interactions with others, so it definitely shone light on a number of topics I probably would not have addressed otherwise, or not in as timely a fashion. However, the people who (IMHO) really need to read it probably won't. It's definitely geared toward a niche group who (a) are trying to be inclusive, less outdated, and more aware of their unintentional offensiveness but (b) don't really know where to start or what their blind spots are. Hopefully I am mistaken, but my experience is that people who are indifferent to whether or not they are offending anyone will not take the time to pursue the nuances of social interaction nor empathize with others. The book is written with the assumption the reader genuinely cares about people who aren't themselves.

Getting Smarter
I have been feeling smarter while reading Blair Imani's book. She is in depth tackling and explaining issues such as racism, classism, and ableism. My favorite chapter is the one on Disability. Ableism has always been an important issue to me. She not only acknowledges the issue, but shares with readers how society can change the issue for the better.I follow Imani on Instagram where she explains all issues mentioned in her book. I am a proud Smartie.

‘When White Folks Catch a Cold, Black Folks Get Pneumonia’
❤ This audiobook was well researched and very well done! It had a academic collegiate feel but folks will learn a great deal as it relates to race, class, disability, the Prison Industrial Complex, redlining and more. The gender/sexuality section had my head spinning! It was indeed an interesting and worthwhile #audiobooking experience. ❤

Essential Reading For Everyone
I'm so happy this book exists! I've been learning about some of the topics Blair covers in here but it has been haphazard and sometimes falls off my radar. But with this, I was able to read on my commute and really focus my learning. And it covers topics I hadn't reached yet, which was amazing. As a person who benefits from a lot of our terrible systems, this was enlightening. I was able to learn about communities that I don't belong to and the ways in which I can be a better ally. And as a queer person, I had the chance to learn more about the nuances to my own community. This book is educational while still being easily understood and I appreciated that. Blair breaks concepts and explanations down into pieces that you can digest without twisting your brain into a pretzel. The bibliography is full of resources for additional learning; I've already bookmarked areas I want to dive into. I loved the reflection questions at the end of every chapter! As soon as I found out about those, I made it a point to stop and reflect on each one. They really help you think and learn more about yourself.I cannot recommend this book enough. It is essential reading for everyone. Thanks, NetGalley!

I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this
As a social work student, my courses talk about all of the themes explored in this book. Sometimes, I feel like I don’t understand these topics as much as I’d like to. I am privileged as a white, able bodied woman, so while I am aware of topics such as racism, classism, disability etc., I wanted to know more about various issues and experiences of people and communities unlike my own. When imposter syndrome had gotten the best of me, this was my impulse purchase (and I regret nothing!)The author explains everything so simply yet with great detail. They self-disclose their own experiences and beliefs in connection to the topics where it may be applicable to do so. It is such an excellent read as they avoid jargon that can be intimidating to those who might not know, and any key terms are defined easily. I have been able to refer to this book for my own personal knowledge as well as to inform the way I understand readings and assignments. To the author, I wish to thank you for such a wonderful book! I truly can’t remember the last time I have enjoyed one this much!!!

A good guide to better understand the modern world.
This book was well put together - from the print quality and graphics to the segmentation of the chapters and the concise, relevant, good content. I feel that everybody should probably read this book. My only (somewhat petty) gripe is that the 'socialism' described here is a reformist type which I find is an inaccurate representation of socialist ideals.
