When Sparks Fly

Avery & Declan have been best friends since college & live together. They’ve been through a lot in their lives. Avery’s parents were killed in a car accident. Declan was used a pawn in his parent's toxic relationship. They both have their demons and are oblivious to their feelings for each other. When an accident that Declan blames himself for leaves Avert relying on him completely. Feelings build as Declan cares for Avery his way of repenting for his guilt. Even then it’s not plain sailing for our hero & heroine as Declan insecurities bite. There is definitely more angst in this story than say Helena’s Pucked series, but there is enough humour & banter to balance. The heroine & hero are relatable and engaging.I enjoy Helena’s style of writing. Her talent for an outlandish scene is legendary. This was a highly enjoyable read that was difficult to put down.

Beautiful Friends to Lovers read 💞
As always with a Helena Hunting read this story drags you straight in and doesn't let you back out until the last words have been read!Avery and Declan have been bestfriends for years.. including living together. They are perfect for each other but the only people who don't see that is themselves. Until one day a accident starts to change them but will it be for the better? Or not?Absolutely love these guys together... the chemistry in off the charts. The banter is hilarious. And they have some super steamy scenes too.I love all the side characters that we meet throughout the story too. This book has all you can ask for in a sweet easy story.. the love.. romance.. friendship and above all else a HEA.

Friends to lovers
This is Declan and Avery story, from long time best friends to lovers. A very gentle story which I found a little hard going at times, but that might have been me. There is a little drama, a slight amount of humour , but an awful lot of dialogue and uncertainty. You actually feel both the main characters uncertainties, and is tactfully and tastefully described from both points of view. Avery sisters are there for support when things go wrong, and Declan’s male friends actually make him realise it could be him. It is an easy read, can be put down and picked up again. I liked it but not loved it like other of Helena’s novels, but it is still definitely worth a read and totally enjoyable.

Three stars
I really enjoyed this book to start with but I soon started getting a bit fed up with it. I like a bit of drama in any book but this got to be too much especially for a friends to lovers story. Disappointed.

Sweet but not my favourite
I love Helena Hunting’s books, the Pucked series is an all time favourite but while this was a mainly sweet read, this wasn’t my favourite by her,It’s a friends to lovers and a forced proximity which resulted in some quite delicious tension, but it seemed to flag a bit and become quite repetitive after a while . Unfortunately when the pace flagged, it lacked the humour and outlandish characters that made the Pucked series such a joy to read so it dragged a bit. It’s not to say it was bad, it was nice enough, but it didn’t blow me away.As a Brit, all of the talk about therapy and working on yourself and working on your friendship with a therapist left me a bit bemused too. I guess it’s a cultural thing, but nobody I know talks like that or behaves like that and I found the navel gazing left me cold and rather killed the vibe between them which was a pity because it had been great at first.Complete story.

Happy and heartwarming
I am a fairly recent convert to Helena Hunting’s stories and was so excited to get my hands on this first book in this new series. This book focuses on Avery, the eldest of three sisters who own and run Spark House - an exclusive hotel / event space. I’m hoping Avery’s sisters get their own stories but either way, this story is complete with it’s on HEA so stands completely alone.Avery is the heroine of our tale and she’s a strong and likeable woman. She’s honest, owns her faults and is loyal and loving to her friends and family. I liked that she was constantly trying to push herself to be better but also realised her limitations. I definitely rooted for her all the way through.I adored Declan. He had a respectable job, was healthy and hugely loyal - but was still in many ways a lost little boy with his fear of commitment. He makes mistakes but I loved that he owned up to them and tried to do better. His vulnerability when it came to Avery was swoonworthy and there was none of the usual drama when there’s a character who doesn’t usually ‘do’ relationships. This is a best friends - who are also roommates - to lovers story and while that does mean we skip the usual ‘getting to know you’ phase, there is quite a slow burn while these two move from friendship into something more. But when they do… oh Lordy, I loved it. The whole premise about why they started hooking up was why romance books were invented. This isn’t as lighthearted as some of Ms Hunting’s romcoms and while it does deal with some potentially upsetting things, they’re all handled very lightly and we never get bogged down with unnecessary emotions. Having said that it’s not a straight romcom, this book was still really funny in places. The peanut brownies, the hobbyhorses to name but two - completely cracked me up.There’s more to the story than just the romance it’s not just about Declan and Avery moving from friends to something more, but them becoming a couple that are perfect for each other and will stay together. No matter what she’s writing, Ms Hunting pulled me in with this story. I was hooked from the first page and I just wanted to keep reading and reading and reading some more. As I said, I’m hoping for books for London and Harley. It may be too convenient to pair them with Declan and Avery’s friends, Jerome and Mark - but here’s hoping and I’ll read them all, regardless. This is a fun and delightful story that is adorable and will warm your heart. I very much enjoyed it and didn’t hesitate to give it 5 stars.
