I was so excited to recieve this product but when I opened the jar there was no seal. It looked like it might have been used previously. I didn't want to take any chances so just thew it away.

After a recent trip to Morocco, I was impressed by the traditions of the hamam: beldi (black olive soap), rhassoul clay, rose water, & argan oil. I ordered this soap because I wanted to try beldi at home but worried the cheaper stuff would be too harsh for my sensitive, occasionally dry skin. A lot of so-called Moroccan goods are manufactured in China or India with very low quality ingredients. I like that this soap is a product of Morocco and has minimal ingredients.I'm probably the only person I know who doesn't actually enjoy the flavor of olives, but I still appreciate the warm, earthy scent of this soap. I find it mild during use & don't notice it at all after. To me it smells a bit salty, like earth and tears, a scent that's appropriate for anyone. It doesn't linger or interfere with perfume or other body products. The soap itself is very mild with a silky texture, thicker than body wash but somewhat similar to a body balm. It feels emollient in your hands but rinses clean without leaving any residue. Recommended use is 2-3 times a week, but I probably use it more often and haven't had any issues with my face or body (my face is oily-combination & sensitive).A little goes a long way, especially if you use a cloth or glove with it. I use a Korean scrub cloth once or twice a week with the beldi and love how my skin feels after.It's a lovely soap for anyone who wants to use something gentle and natural, without lots of artificial ingredients or added fragrance. I love it!

I confess, I bought this product to use in a recipe for tadelakt, an ancient water resistant surface render, for an outdoor cob pizza oven. I wont be putting this final coat on the oven for another couple of weeks and so just for fun tried the product for what I assume is it's intended use...as a facial cleanser. I have never in my wildest dreams ever seen such a product. It has no false color and no false perfume oder. It's mild non-lingering scent is reminiscent of white ash. Not smoky but of thoroughly burnt white ash. It looks greenish black and...well...a bit slimy. I reluctantly scooped out a little dap and lathered it up for a face wash. Can't tell you how surprised I was at the pleasant feel of this soap on my skin!!! It isn't oily or greasy feeling yet it isn't drying either. I have super sensitive "combination" skin. You know, oily around the nose and dry as a chip every where else. After about a week of using this soap my oily area is not oily and my dry spots are no longer dry. This is truly the nicest facial cleanser I have ever used, including some very expensive ones from a dermatologist. Man woman or child you cant go wrong with this soap. Though for children be advised that it does sting the eyes as much as ordinary soap.As for its performance in the tadelakt recipe? I'll do an update when that final step is completed!
