Owl Houses, Japanese Cedar, with Composite Weather-Tight Roof

The owl house is constructed for smaller type owls. It is well made and easy to put up. As owls don't really construct a nest, it was nice to have the fresh wood shavings to put in as nesting material. And it makes me feel like I've done what I can to attract an owl to my property and to keep the owl and potential young safe and warm.

Seems sturdy, as expected. I am happy with it, though price was high for a simple wooden box.

Pretty neat owl house but box has damage with a corner of the roof broke off. Broken part not in box so product was shipped damaged

Upon opening the packing/shipping box and taking the bubble wrap off the nestbox I saw that a corner of the roof was broken off the nestbox. I looked around inside the packing/shipping box but couldn't find the broken piece. I then opened the nestbox and I found the broken piece packed tightly inside the nestbox beneath the bag of wood shavings. The only way that broken piece could have gotten in there is if someone put it in there. The nest box was packed in and shipped in the manufacturer's box, so I know the broken piece didn't get there after it had been packaged or during shipping.The little latch that goes over the clean-out door to keep it closed is quite flimsy. I don't expect it would last long. Even with bending it in to make it more firm against the clean-out door it could still easily be moved to open by a squirrel or owl claw. To make the closed door more secure I drilled a small hole at a 45 degree angle through the nestbox side panel and into the door near where the latch was installed and then inserted a 2 inch long thin, removable (with just a twist) nail into the hole. This makes the closure of the door solid and secure.No instructions were included in the box in regards to mounting height or nesting material depth.On the plus side the nestbox is very well built and sturdy. It is put together with screws and the screws are countersunk. The nestbox dimensions are accurate to what is listed in the description. The composite roof is sealed together at the top so no rain can seep through. The nestbox came with mounting screws and a good size bag of wood shavings to put inside the nestbox.Overall this is a nice nestbox. Rather than send it back because of the broken roof corner I glued the broken piece back onto the roof.I would purchase this again and just hope that quality control would be more conscientious about their job. TO THE MANUFACTURER: If you are going to send these out with broken pieces, also send some glue!
