Sticky Faith, Youth Worker Edition: Practical Ideas to Nurture Long-Term Faith in Teenagers

I was really moved to tears when reading Sticky Faith. I had never had that experience when reading a book other than the Bible. I realize much of what we do in youth ministry must be focused upon long-term results for youth who will eventually became adults. It teaches you that building Sticky Faith must encompass the entire Body of Christ working cohesively. Their research compiled from college students shows that many of them who were a part of youth ministries had one thing in common, many felt if they had built meaningful long-term relationships with Christian adults within the church that would have altered their trajectory and willingness to remain faithful. Therefore, I saw this as imperative as youth workers we must build relationships that allow our young people to feel connected, and to know we are available long after youth ministry. I highly recommend this book to anyone working in youth ministry. It was transformative.

Whereas Sticky Faith focuses on what parents can do to help their kids faith stick for life, Sticky Father Youth Worker Edition takes the same study and applies it to those who work in a church context. There were so many great ideas for youth pastors and youth workers throughout the entire book. I particularly liked the sections on how to prepare seniors for college and helping your whole church buy into the vision of sticky faith.The overwhelming highlight of this book was chapter 2, The Sticky Gospel. This book is worth it just for this chapter. It was by far the best explanation of how to teach the gospel to teens I have ever read. So many teenagers adopt the gospel of sin management, but this chapter was rich with ways to help teens grasp the deep truths of the gospel and its implication in a proper way.Even for those who have read Sticky Faith, this book is different enough that I would highly recommend it for all youth workers.

After reading all the depressing books about teens losing their faith, this book was a breath of fresh air. Instead of focusing on the reason teens walk away from faith, this material focuses in on what has helped teens maintain their faith. The ideas for responding to the data are excellent. And the amazing thing is that there is also a book for parents and a curriculum to use with teens. So you not only get a number of practical ideas in the book, but you also are able to access great material to help pass on these ideas to parents and teens. The discussions we've had with our volunteers, parents and teens have all been amazing thanks to this material! I highly recommend it. Buy all your volunteers a copy. Get one for every parent in the group and grab the teen curriculum to start a class with them!

As a graduate of youth group and now as a youth leader, I had hoped that this book would have some information that was not already out there. I was a little disappointed that many of the ideas seemed to be the usual suspects. The research that went into this book was certainly immense. Their findings were the driving factor behind many of their suggestions. This is good, because they show empirical data backing up their ideas and can show you what works or what is usually most-needed. The downside is that there is too much information. This book would have been better served in several parts. As a young youth worker in a small church with a small group of kids, I felt like this book was not for me. It's OK if it wasn't intended to fit my situation, but it ended up leaving me overwhelmed by information with no drive to re-read it and dig further. I would give it 2.5 stars but that's not possible.

A great resource on the process of what is happening in our local churches. My vision is to create a context of safety to discuss where God's vision includes the personal, individual stories of our people. That vision, if done well, will allow our hope to be placed on the Creator God and not the fear that the church is dying. God is doing a new thing. I think sticky faith gives a pathway to the new thing.

Was way cheaper on here than through the school , and was very helpful in school !

Love love love this books. The statistics and true stories are so helpful. I engage with youth everyday and having this little extra insight and encouragement helps so much.
