Excellent book to complement the film
An interesting book about the making of the film Shane. By the time you finish it, you kind of feel like you were at the shoot. And of course it makes you want to watch the movie again.

SHANE...If you see one epic western movie this is the one to top the list. Magnificent!
Shane stands along at the top of the primary "to see" list although THE WILD BUNCH deserves a co-status. Both of these films have a similar theme (good bye to the west we have known), but each movie takes a different path to get there. George Stevens (SHANE Director) and Sam Peckinpah (THE WILD BUNCH director) tell different stories of what happens when the curtain closes on sharing the land and the glory. Oh, God, how I love this movie.

Great resource on the classic movie "Shane"
I've been a fan of the movie "Shane" and its star Alan Ladd all my life. Aubrey Malone's book about the making of the classic Western, as well as its symbolism, provides a thorough and enjoyable retrospective, complete with many research footnotes and an extensive bibliography. Archival photos from the film and candid photos taken on the movie set are placed throughout the book. Being immersed in Mr. Malone's flowing and evocative style, I felt as if I were seeing the movie in my mind while learning many details I never knew about the cast, the crew, and the film's history. Any fan of "Shane" or Hollywood films in general would love this book!
