Bella's Birthday Unicorn (1) (Unicorn Magic)

This was a gift for my 7 year old granddaughter - I am sure she will tell me whether or not it was good

Cute book

I really, really hated this book. I wish I had never read it to my impressionable 5 year old daughter. It's like a marshmallow with shards of glass inside. Do not read this/buy this for your child unless you believe:1) Inherent privilege and classism are not only deserved but darling and sweet2) 14 years olds would be lucky to be at the beck and call of an 8-year-old princess (instead of in school, with their families, having lives of their own???)3) A person who is grossly mistreated by her own family (as a result of aforementioned inherent privilege) and is therefore badly hurt and runs away is framed as 'evil' because, you know, when her pretty sister gets a unicorn and gets to be queen, she gets absolutely nothing. So she's the bad guy. Because she was born that way. Not because her own family rejected and ostracized her. Right.Seriously, I had to check the publication date on this book like four times. Listen, my daughter loves unicorns and pink and princesses. I grabbed this off the shelf thinking it would be delightful fluff that we would have fun reading together, instead it was abhorrent. I'm not even going to pass it on. I'm going to throw it in the trash. How did this even get published?

My six year old loves reading anything with Unicorns in it. She devour your four book set in four days. She is ahead of her fellow classmates and loves reading chapter books. We currently live in KY too and have a farm an hour away from Nashville. She really hopes you will write more unicorn books : )

This book brings the kids into an amazing magical world. Shield spell that protects the royals from the people, Juices that auto-refilled, wrapping papers that kept changing colours, and so forth. I found all these were wishes that many of us could only dreamed of and at the same time, these helped to stimulate the creative juices in the kids. This book is targeted at children in the age group of 6 to 9. My daughter is 7 with strong command of English. However, when I read the book to her, I found the length of the chapters and language used could be challenging. I only relented when I noted her keen interest in the world of Princess Bella and her friendship with Ivy and Clara. A wonderful book to introduce your kids to a magical world and this book might also provides a good platform to move your children from books like Secret Kingdom, Dirty Bertie, Mermaid Tales, Horrid Henry to the next level.

I bought this book for my 6 year old at her school's bookfair and it's been a big hit. She automatically loves anything to do with unicorns, but a really fun part of the book for her I think is the blending of magic and technology. Bella is a modern princess and her environment reflects that, with a strong magical presence as well as technical aspects that make sense to kids being raised in the midst of tablets and smartphones and I for one really enjoy the way this book brings the fantasy of tech and magic together in a fun and organic way. We love the stories of friendship and self realization that Bella starts to explore in this book and are looking forward to following the rest of the series!

I would not recommend this for a modern, strong, adventurous girl. There is way too much emphasis on what the girls look like (,mots with blonde hair, light eyes) and what they are wearing and their petty bickering. Nothing happens aside from riding in a princess parade.

My daughter loves this series. We had lots of fun discussing the characters and the fantasy. She was 6 when reading it and it suited her well but she is a strong reader. She got the second book for Christmas and is deep into that as well.
