Dorfman Pacific Men's 1 Piece Suplex Pinch Front Safari Hat

First of all, this (XL) hat fits my 7 3/8 head and not too small or large. It could probably fit a 7 1/2 head without being too tight unless there is a size difference between hats of the same XL designation.Second, I was a little disappointed as the whole hat has a "plastic" feeling and a little stiff, but knowing the price of real (felt/cloth/leather) hats versus this one, it is acceptable.Third and most importantly, I was looking for a hat to replace my caps for when grass cutting and doing yard work. The brim is nice and big. It does an excellent job for me in keeping the sun out of my eyes and off of my neck from the mid-morning, mid-day and mid-afternoon sun. That was my primary purpose in ordering this hat. And the size was just right. With these two criteria met, I can gladly accept the other plastic and stiff material.It looks nice too.

I originally bought this hat (Dorfman Pacific Safari Hat - with mesh) for my husband about 6 years ago. He works outside on race cars and is very sensitive to the heat. He needed something to protect his face and neck, while at the same time ventilating his head. This hat met all his needs. Bonus is the ventilated/mesh around the crown of the hat. Brim provides protection from the sun and the mesh helps keep his head a little cooler. In fact, he loved it so much, we bought a second hat so he would have one for work and one for vacation/pleasure. Both of these hats have been well-worn and well-loved. They started to look a little grungy, so I got him a new one for Christmas. The only thing that could make this a better product (for our needs) would be a light gray color. The khaki and light olive colors are great for the safari vibe, but my husband works on cars and the "dirt" color tends to be black/gray. We definitely do not want a black hat (as that would defeat the purpose of keeping cool), but light gray would be great!

The hat arrived in a soft sack and when opened, it looked as if it had been run over by a truck, several times. Brim was smashed and twisted and totally misshapen. Crown was crushed. No amount of TLC was going to put this Humpty Dumpty back together again. Returned for a refund.

I do love this hat - have bought probably 6 of them in the last ~10yrs (or so). Replace when they understandably get too grubby. As others have suggested, the sizing seems to have shrunk a bit. While I bought the same size as I've bought all along, in the last ~ 2yrs the sizes seem to have shrunk. Next time (and there will be a next time) I'll be reviewing what folks write looking to see if a larger one is warranted still.In the past this hat has worked wonderfully for me, keeping me cool and comfortable with no sign of sun exposure to my head. It seems to almost collect breezes, and almost feels cooler wearing it than not (for instance, in the shade). This new hat seems stiffer than older ones, and like that as well! Had to retie the strap to be a bit longer, but otherwise a great hat.

My ONLY complaint is that it came in a bag and not a box. You know bags get a little squished but with a little work, the hat took on its familiar look and shape. This is my 3rd hat, and second one from this company. They hold up well but I use them for yard work so they get really sweaty and used up. I keep a good one for places where I need a nice hat. The hat is cool but protects the places where I'm a little thin in my hair on top. It's not a matter of IF I will buy this hat again but only when.

Shipping: the hat was carefully packaged in a large box with air pillows. A cardboard circle had been inserted to keep the shape of the hat during shipping, and it was in perfect condition.Color: described as stone and looked light in the photo, but it is more like brown. I am ok with that.Size: I ordered medium, the smallest size available. It sits low on my forehead, but I am a woman and figured it would be a bit too large for me. It might fit a man just right. Though it is a man's hat, I think it looks nice on me.Description: the tie is made of soft fabric with a plastic slide, kept the hat on my head when I bent over. The brim is a nice size, gives shade all around, and is stiff. The Supplex fabric is UPF50+ (except for the mesh) and is shrink and fade resistant. The lining is Cool Max.I tested the hat for two hours while gardening; it is very lightweight and comfortable, and the mesh provides ventilation. I was working very hard, so still had some wet hair when I was done, but not as much as with my straw gardening hats. Very happy that I bought this hat!

I like the look and feel of this hat. The ventilation is very good. I mainly use this hiking and backpacking, including walking in a short raining downpour. It's been smashed in car trunks and suitcases. While it doesn't look new, it still holds it shape fairly well. Instead of hand wash, I used the clothes washer and that was a mistake. The fabric on the crown of the hat wrinkled up and it doesn't look so nice. So I bought another.

I had a hat like this several years ago, and when it went the way of all textiles, I began to look for a replacement. The sticking point was that my head size is below average and I was unable to find a small in this style/model. After two unsatisfactory alternatives, I decided to purchase a medium size which I could alter with a filler under the inner band if I needed to. I have been wearing it without "shimming" and so far It has been workable. It is a little loose, but if it is windy I can use the chin strap. The key to my contentment is the weight, or lack there of. This hat is light, very light, and unlike others that I have worn, does not exacerbate my neck issues when my neck acts up. Love the hat!

A decent enough hat but waaaay toooo small. I wear a 7-3/8, this was sold as an xxl which should be 7-3/4, I could barely get it on. Amazon returned it, no issues. I like Amazon better every day.

Well packaged. Perfect fit. Seller provided sizing tape just in case an adjustment was needed. This was a gift and it was exactly what the recipient wanted. Because the parcel was well packaged, the hat arrived in perfect condition. Very pleased.
