Aside from the ceiling modification, I've only had to replace the ceiling cover with plywood to complete the installation. I forgot there's only 14 inches between joist behind the drywall.The instructions are horrible and took a bit of work to put everything together, however once everything in place, the device works flawlessly.I had to build a box in the attic space and run the electric line for both, projector and lift, and have no wires to the sound system and video sources, thanks to the IOGEAR Wireless 5x2 for video connections and the iFinity Wireless Audio Transmitter/Receiver.I think this is an excellent unit for the price; it does what they described, and has a smooth operation going up and down. Very quiet and the speed is good. Remote control works well. It will probably hold at least twice the weight I put in it. The projector is a BenQ HT3050.The clip shows the final product.

If you need instructions to install this unit then you probably shouldn't be installing this unit. Everyone is complaining about instructions, when you REALLY dont need any. The only thing you really need to know is this:1. You can control how far the mount drop or goes up by adjusting the Allan head bolts on the side of the upper unit to control up and down travel distance.2. The lower tray (where the projector mounts) should have the slot pointing to the screen. The mount has a natural down angel to it when mounted this way. Half the bottom tray has a slot for travel the other half doesnt. Make sure the side with the slot faces your screen.Other than that it is all VERY self explanatory without any instructions. Anything you cant figure out can be, by looking at review and pictures of the item.You will need a minimum of about 10-14in above ceiling to hide the projector completely, more if the projector is taller, it will fit between 16" joists.Simple.

So, first, I want to say the previous users advice and guidance was crucial in installing this - read some of the previous reviews. They were NOT kidding when they said the instructions were terrible - this is not a project for the faint-hearted. However, if you are handy, take your time, and use a little common sense, then you will be VERY happy with the result. All the parts I needed were included in the packaging and I thought the build-quality was very good. I ended up building a full enclosure and installed it during my renovation (pre-drywall). My biggest advice if you decide to go this route:1) Give yourself about 3/4" to 1" extra all around the enclosure opening. I made mine about 1/4-1/2" and it was TIGHT. I had to do a LOT of extra work (with the drywall) to make it close flush with the ceiling. Also, DON'T FORGET the thickness of the drywall you will add to the interior of the enclosure.2) Do the drywall finishing and painting prior to installing the lift and the enclosure for it. I got ahead of myself (probably because I was excited) and I created a lot of extra work for myself (again).For $250, and a little elbow grease, it came out fantastic and I couldn't be happier.
