UPDATED April 15, 2017I amended this review because since writing it I have had incredible customer service regarding it. A very nice lady from All-Sun contacted me and sent instructional videos to help with MY misunderstanding of the product. I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong.They also said if I sent a video of the product making the noise they would replace it for me. I thought this was fantastic as it was a Christmas present that was well past the return date.The only thing I still worry about is the pitch is very high and the ear piece inserted in the ear seems too intense for a child's inner ear. I will use headphones instead. You could also clip the earpiece on the child's clothing as they will absolutely hear tone to signal metal.

I used my garret ace 400 and this one on the beach with an nephew, he got 4 coins and i got a rotten nail. It's because garret will look for stuff deeper in the ground I guess (almost 8 ft deep), but this one will pick up objects closer to the surface (where a child can reach it). So we all had a good laugh about it and I'm glad I got him this detector. Only downside is that sometimes it keeps beeping seemingly out of control, so you can to re-adjust the dial once in awhile, which is not big deal.

Works as advertised. This is designed for children (as intended for). Easy to use. Just adjust the sensitivity so it doesn't constantly squeal, toss a quarter on the ground, keep adjusting the sensitivity until it only squeals when you pass over the quarter (doesn't take long to do). It doesn't work to the caliber of an adult model (as expected). The battery cover comes off easily so tape it.

Pour les jeunnes seulement sensibilite tres difficile a reglerquand on bouge le manche avec une petite pression sa sonne pour rien et ne detecte pas plus de 2 cm dans le sol pour une piece...Pour les gros morceau de metal fonctionne bien2 sur 5 ...ne vaut pas plus de 25$

Wasnt happy with this purchase. It's more of a toy than a metal detector. My 5yr old doesnt care for it cause it doesn't do its job.
