Century The Night She Disappeared: the No. 1 bestseller from the author of The Family Upstairs

Skim read the last 300 pages
Sorry, I normally love her books and sit up into the early hours to finish them but this one was plain silly. I didn't like any of the characters and found it odd that attention was paid to the 'grieving' mother's hair and clothes and no details given on her state of mind as she tried to find her daughter and cared for her baby grandson.I look forward to her next book though!

Her best yet.
I have now read 9 of Lisa Jewell's novels. All have been totally engrossing and thoroughly enjoyable. She is the mistress of the modern whodunnit. In my view, only the American writer Shari Lapena is her equal. The two are very similar, particularly in their most recent novels. I agree with Harlam Coben that here Jewell surpasses herself. To divulge details of the book's substance would be an offence against those who have not yet encountered it. I can only recommend it without reservation.

A slow-burning psychological thriller
I wasn't keen on The Family Upstairs but I bloody loved this one. It's nuanced, suspenseful, and plot-driven. I wasn't particularly interested in Sophie. She came across as rather one dimensional and boring and her husband seemed dull and uninterested in her. But Tallulah was lovely, if rather naive for a 19 year old. And Scarlett was a typically horrible, privileged, spoilt little cow. I guessed early on what the weapon and conclusion would be but there were still a couple of twists to surprise me at the end. Overall this was a slow-burning psychological thriller I would highly recommend and I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Psychological crime thriller full of twists and turns keeping you hooked!
Absolutely loved this book. From the moment I began reading I was hooked. It’s set in 5 parts and the story is told alternatively in the present and past, gradually giving the reader more knowledge and answers. Once the past meets with the present, a lot of questions are answered but it still leaves the reader anticipating why is going to happen next. This book was full of tension and suspense, it was dark and had me eagerly reading through each chapter. I have always loved Lisa Jewell’s writing style and this book in my eyes, is one of her best. Once I’d got about 20% in, I ended up finishing it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down. I especially love how it misleads you in places and makes you think you know what’s happening or happened, then a surprise twist comes to play and you realise how wrong you were. The character development throughout the book was superb! You start with one view of the main characters and by the end, you have a completely different view, which unravels at a perfect pace within its chapters. I particularly liked the end and the surprise twist of one character and his motives/part they deceivingly played within the plot!I highly recommend this book to readers of psychological, crime thrillers. It’s full of twists and turns which keeps you hooked.Another 5 star read from the amazing Lisa Jewell!

Very well developed characters, absurd plot
The title of my review explains the problem of this book in a nutshell. Most of the characters are really interesting, but the plot is totally silly. I’m not going to write any spoilers, but I can’t understand why so many readers are fawning over this book. At multiple points - especially during the latter half - I found myself thinking “That couldn’t possibly happen, it’s ridiculous.”….The gushing endorsements by famous authors are really puzzling.
