Received red miso instead of white but it was still delicious.

I loved this miso and used it to make Miso-Glazed Salmon, and Sauteed Baby Bok Choy with Miso Sauce, both of which turned out so delicious. Take my review with a grain of salt, though, because I've never compared brands and the last time I bought miso was like 5 years ago. This brand was recommended by Cook's Illustrated, who taste tested white miso and chose this as their favorite. Here's what they had to say about it: "This toffee-colored miso combines intense “umami” with “tropical,” “sweet,” and “subtly tart” flavors. We especially liked it in glazed salmon; all the flavors were in “perfect balance.” Its sodium level falls in the middle of our lineup, so tasters found it full-flavored but not overwhelmingly salty." It was great to find it on Amazon!

I should have listened to others’ reviews, these plastic contains are very thin and not designed for shipment. One of mine arrived opened and the second severely crushed. Both miso pastes are a very dark reddish brown and nowhere near the blonde color I see in other customer photos. This is the first time I’ve bought miso paste so I don’t know if they sold me a mislabeled product, if it’s gone rancid, or if this is normal.I’m throwing mine away and will search for a local source for miso paste. Amazon needs to enforce product packaging minimum standards as this reflects poorly on them too.FWIW, the expiration date on mine is January 2023 (6 months).
