Legion: The Horus Heresy, Book 7

(Audiobook) My return to the Heresy...
I started reading the Horus Heresy books 10 years ago, but then gave up 20 books in due to the many branching story lines and honestly just getting fatigued by the who what where and why of it all.But now, I have returned and I have come prepared.Legion is the best novel to begin the Horus Heresy with and one of the best overall, this story is about sacrifice for the greater good even if that means betrayal. It has mystery, espionage, action, a love interest and a glimpse into one of the most interesting Astartes legions in the 40k universe. If you are considering reading/listening to the Horus Heresy, I recommend making a plan. The plan I've made follows the main story line. Below is my list (in chronological order):Legion, Horus Rising, False Gods, A Thousand Sons (don't get audio book, narrator is not very good), Prospero Burns, Galaxy in Flames, The Flight of the Eisenstein, Mechanicum (this one is optional but a good read nonetheless), Fulgrim, The First Heretic, Aurelian (short story, optional but very good), Know No Fear, Betrayer, Angel Exterminatus, Garro (optional, this concludes the story of a main character from False Gods & Flight of the Eisenstein), Vengeful Spirit, The Unremembered Empire (not great but essential), The Crimson King (continues from A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns), Pharos, Praetorian of Dorn, The Master of Mankind, Wolfsbane and then Slaves to Darkness. Then onto Siege of Terra :)

Good book but not the usual 40k book
A surprisingly good book but with a completely different feel from most other 40k books.

Great story
I have recently started getting back in to 40K but just from a story and lore perspective. This is a very good story and worth a read as I am finding with all other Heresy stories no matter which author has produced the book. The loss of one star is purely down to the cost of the book vs how many pages , it's just a bit expensive.

An interesting switch to center the action on the imperial army.
Well written, contains my favourite character thus far; John Grammaticus of the Cabal, and concentrates the action on the Imperial army and the clandestine operations of the Alpha Legion. An enjoyable break from Astarties heavy action.

Another epic read
I would happily recommend this book to anyone who has a love of science fiction, once again Dan Abnett has delivered an absolutely riveting look into the universe of Warhammer.

Awesome
Awesome Alpha legion from beginning to end. I don't want to write any more but it won't let me post a review unless I hit the word count .

Dan Abnett Book. What do you Expect
It’s Dan Abnett. It’s another fantastic book. This one took me four hours and fifty seven minutes from start to finish. I related to both the Alpha Legion And Imperial forces. Just a great well thought out and delivered read. Having served the colours in my younger years I can appreciate the loyalty and comradeship being part of a military unit brings and I think DA has captured the essence of this perfectly in this book, probably more so than other authors of the same genre.Ian McGregor is another talented author of WW2 military fiction who is also well worth a read and who captures this ethos equally well.

Good but not Abmett’s Best
I read the Horus Heresy books because the first by Dan Abnett was excellent. Entries by other authors in the series sometimes lived up to that, others less so. In Legion it’s obvious why Abnett got Book 1, even if this one isn’t as good. It’s still excellent. Not perfect, but sequels rarely are.

One of my favourite books in the series
Amazing. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Simply couldnt put it down. Dan Abnett is a veritable scholar and master of his craft. Had to look up more words and terms than a textbook. He is one among my top 3 warhammer writers.
