This gravel is toxic for fish and it killed my Chinese algae eater. In less than 24 hours after setting up a 10 gallon tank with this gravel, my fish (2 platys, 3 tetras, 1 Molly and 1 Chinese algae eater) started grasping for air, becoming more desperate as the time passed by. I discarded all the possible reasons why they would be lacking of air. It couldn't be ammonia since it was new water, I always use Prime and it doesn't harm them, filter was producing enough vibration to keep water oxygenated, decorations were the same used in their previous aquarium. Before 24 hours my Chinese algae eater died. I could only conclude that it was the gravel causing the problem. I decided to remove the gravel and use the only media I had from the smaller aquariums I had before. The result was happy fish being able to breathe again. This confirmed that it was the gravel causing the death of one of my fish and distress on the others, since the only change I made was the gravel.After I took out the gravel from the tank I noticed that some pieces had already lost color and some even kind of dissolved. Also, when I rinsed it (and I rinsed it well) before placing it in the tank, I noticed the the gravel had many small particles. Some of it were too small. This was the least expensive way for me to add gravel to my crayfish tank. I breed crayfish so the tank has to be cleaned and upgraded all the time. I just needed a small amount to upgrade the gravel floor in the tank and this was ideal. It was the cheapest way for me to do this, considering I have trouble getting around. Only one store in our immediate area sells this and it's more expensive than this! I highly recommend this if you don't need a big load of gravel.
