OrcaTorch SD01 Review
The media could not be loaded. SD01 Mini Glow Tank:Overview: Most of my local dives in the cold depths of Puget Sound equate to night dives regardless of what time of day it is. After 60 feet or so the light starts to fade and the blackness begins to envelop you.I wanted a simple and effective way for my buddy to be able to see and track me in these dark conditions. I found the Orcatorch SD01 and thought it was a great concept and wanted to give it a try.So how did the SD01 do?In the case: It comes in a small zippered case with spare o-rings, a single aaa battery, a lanyard, a user manual, and a warranty card.Build and design: It’s built tough. The overall quality feels durable and solid in hand. The threading screws together with ease. It came with lubricated double o-rings that should help keep it watertight at depth.Depth Rated 150m IXP-8Size: 77.5(Length)*19mm(Diameter)Net Weight:23.5gPower: It’s powered by a single AAA battery.Max Runtime: 108 hoursSimple: The light is intuitive and easy to use. Simply twist on and off. From off, a one-quarter turn of the switch will activate the pulse setting.Attachment points: There is a single attachment point on the tail of the light. You can use the provided lanyardFinish: The finish shows little wear after multiple dives.Final Thoughts:Pros:•Bright and sustainable output.•Solid build quality•Good Size. Small enough to travel with. Very lightweight.•Twist On/Off for easy use.•Includes one aaa battery•Long 108-hour runtime allows for multiple dives before needing new batteries.•Adds safety to any dive•150m rated depth makes this usable to technical and recreational divers.•Good valueCon’s:•A rechargeable 14500 battery would be more efficient and add very little size. It would make the battery rechargeable.•Strobe pulse speed is not controllable. It is faster than I would prefer.•Light is one color only. Multiple colors in a single unit would be a nice option.•A non-pulse, always-on glow stick-like option would be a nice feature.

Sturdy and bright
This is a really nice marker light. Small and light, but sturdy. Seems like it will really hold up to some hard use. A much better choice than the disposable kind for night diving and a good addition to my dive kit. It came with a great case, too, to keep it safe and packable.Definitely recommend!

handy, dandy tank light
this is a nice, easy tank light for low light and/or night diving conditions.I've tested this out under a few different scenarios now.First the pros.- it's real easy to use and attach around your tank valve.- it is easily seen underwater. it's blinking pattern is enough to be visible but not so much as to be annoying.now a couple of cons.- it could be just a little bit brighter.- i got the blue light. though it visible, i think the white light is a better option.- though easy to attach, it is loose and slips around a bit. it takes a little bit of playing around to fit it snugbottom line, as an instructor, it is a great tool so students can easily and quickly identify which guy in the black wetsuit is their instructor.

Great marker light.
I’m very impressed with this marker light. Working as a dove professional I have bought several of these over the years. This is my new favorite. The casing is solid compared to the normal clear plastic. It also has a heavy strap on it letting you mont it from the tank, band or D-ring. It comes in a small carrying case so you don’t have to worrying about damaging it if you pack it for dive travel. My favorite part is it’s a highly visible soft stone light. I’ve used several that were clear and honestly annoying because they flashed so brightly. This marker light is highly visible when you are looking but it has a softer glow so you don’t notice it constantly. I lead four night dives under a new moon and no one had a problem following the red light on my tank band.10 out of 10 I would recommend. I will order multiple

Excellent Marker Light
These are great little lights. I'm not using for any diving application but instead as locating lights on my dogs' harnesses. I had purchased Nite Ize SpotLit collar lights originally and they worked fine for my older dogs, but my new pups were rough housing in a wet field and after that their lights quit working right. These Orcatorch SD01s are much nicer lights than the SpotLits. AAA instead of a coin cell, double o-rings instead of snapping together, and much stronger construction overall. I have them mounted to the handle of my pups' ICEFANG GN8 harnesses and though they mostly face rearwards, I'm able to see the lights from the front well enough.I have the green, blue, red, and orange lights. The green is the brightest, followed very closely by the blue, the red is bright enough, and the orange is the dimmest. The orange light is fine, really, it is just noticeably dimmer than the other lights.

Should have a knurled body and bigger hole
The hole is so small you can not use cave line to attach it to boltsnap. I dive sidemount and would attach it to my butt d-ring if I could use a knurled body would make it easier to turn it on/off. As it is you’re pretty much stuck with using the lanyard. It would give you as much flexibility if the hole was large enough to attach a boltsnap.Great design using a standard AAA most people already have in their save-a-dive kit. Maybe in the future a AA version. Shearwaters computer divers would carry one less battery type around then.Double o-ring is also nice compared to most other tank markers.Next version if you could change from blinking to constant on by twisting the light off then back on within a few seconds would also be an upgrade.Brightness is perfect. Two stars off for the design of the tail cap hole and no knurling.
