Finally a disc that works, sent fast and packaged well
I use these to back up my cd collection, for a car copy etc. I bought a pack of 100 verbatim and the first few off the stack worked fine. several months later I tried to burn a few cds and my computer kept telling me to insert a blank disc. I though something was wrong with my computer, but it was only a few months old. I tried on another computer and the same thing happened. My son gave me a disc from his stash and it worked. I was like, why? I just bought this stack of 100. I went through them all and none would work. I did not know what to think. I ordered some more because that was the brand I always used. They did not work either. I finally bought these memorex and so far so good. I don't know why this seems to be happening to a lot of people as I see in the reviews. So far I am very happy with the memorex. I only hope when I order more they will work as well.

Lowest Failure Rates By Far
Of all the writable disc brands I use, memorex has some of the best CD-R. It's not first party Sony or Phillips, but the the low failure rates are next to none in my experience. I make backups of broken/heavily scratched PlayStation classics (RIP Crash Bash and Spyro 2) that are unreadable in my PS1/2/3 and these burned at 4x speed work like a charm, which is further more impressive considering that PS1 hardware is especially picky with disc quality. Even 8x burns (one of my cheaper writers only goes down to 8x) work fantastic! As for music, some players are picky about direct disc copies, but these work best out of third party for me. I still have an old MP3 disc from 2006 which is dinged and lightly surface scratched but still reads all 107 tracks.Edited a few typos: June 1, 2018

inadequate packagingby manufacturer. So item arrived damaged
As other reviewers have experienced the packaging was broken in transit. As a result the CDs were scattered all over the carton. The problem is the poor design of the holder which is not strong enough to survive the jostling of transit. Unlike some CDs which come protected by a sturdy holder, Memorex has tried to save money by sandwiching the discs between two plastic end pieces drawn together with a brittle plastic tube in the center. The external label is just thin shrink-wrapping material and provides no support. In my package the column had snapped and the entire thing had fallen apart. It didn't help that Amazon had sent it in a mailing carton with no bubble pack or packing to stop it rattling around. Frankly for such a small item I can't be bothered to return it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed the CD's are still ok. However, other purchasers should be aware of this problem and consider another brand that's better packaged.

Best sound quality available (in my opinion)
My daughter is a singer songwriter in Nashville working for a major label. She sends me all the songs she writes (about 100 a year) and I record them on Memorex Music CD-R discs. I've used other brands but the sound quality is better on these discs. I've never had one fail.

Package arrived in one piece
The disks work just fine. I burn a lot of disks and I have probably ordered 5 of these 100 disk units in the last five months. Of all of those only one could be opened properly. The only way I see to open this container is to screw off the top lid. It is hard to turn and it takes many revolutions to get it to where you think you might get it open. Then as I continue to turn this handle it starts to pop and it does not open. From there I find some way to break into this container to get at the disks. I saved the one center pole from one of these episodes and I store the disks from the just broken into container onto that. I have continued to buy these Memorex because they are good. I had problems with other brands that I tried. So, bad container aside, these are the best buy when I finally crack open the container. I just received my last order today and have screwed the lid to the top and now it's to the opening tools. One successful way is to drill down the post with a 1/2 inch drill bit and then the top will come off. You might have some drill debris to deal with but you can handle that. It is a relatively easy job if you have the right tools. As you can see from my previous review there were serious problems with the packaging. The last one was a complete disaster. The container holding the cd's was completely smashed. The disks have been usable but i put them onto the spool I was currently using. Each of those orders were from the same vendor. This time a different vendor. The box was just large enough for the container and it had no damage. Why I continued with the same vendor, I guess I'm a slow learner. Future orders will be from this vendor, and I burn a lot of disks.

High failure rate, unreadable by some Plextors
What an atrocity these discs are. I have three different CD drives:* Plextor PX-755SA (f/w rev 1.07)* Plextor PX-716A (f/w rev 1.11)* Toshiba SD-R1612 (f/w rev unknown)All discs were burnt on the PX-755SA. One burn failed (could've just been a bad disc; it happens), so I'm excluding that from my opinion. All burns were done at 16x (occasionally I'll use faster, but I prefer less re-reads when the discs are used).Out of 10 successful burns, 7 were readable by the PX-755SA, 3 were unreadable by all drives (including the PX-755SA). Of the 7 which were readable, only ONE of those was readable by a drive other than PX-755SA.Before you say "sounds like a Plextor problem", consider this: I also use "Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 48x CD-R Media (Black)" discs purchased from Amazon. I have yet to experience any problems with those discs. That said, I'm left to believe these discs suffer from major compatibility problems, completely unrelated to vendor. It's possible I simply got a "bad batch", but the failure rate is completely unacceptable; it's wasted money, and wasted time.As someone in the IT industry, I need to be able to burn a disc at an acceptable speed (16x) and haul that disc to a co-location facility to install an operating system on a server. I don't like burning a disc then driving 20 minutes, only to find the media itself has failed me.Avoid these particular Memorex discs.
