Creamy, easy to use gouache
I use gouache along with watercolors, and I sometimes use white gouache to cover up already painted areas I don't like. This was my first time trying Winsor & Newton gouache. This gouache is creamy and spreads easily without needing to add a lot of water. It covers dry watercolor nicely, but is not completely opaque. The attached photo shows several thickly applied coats of white gouache over a very dark blue watercolor base. This white gouache can be mixed easily with different colors of watercolor to create interesting pastel shades, making it very versatile.

Basic necessity for an artists paint box
Winsor & newton best quality for guache . I love having a tube of this high quality white on hand it easily turns high pigmented watercolors into Matte guache finishes. I like to use watercolors and guache side by side . The price on this is the best offer and why I will continue to purchase this product on here . This product is truly a basic necessity for an artist’s paint box. The pigment mixes beautifully to create bright not watered down shades. Your art can only be as good as your tools and products you use !

paint
I love it because it is opaque and can be used on dark cardstock. Also, it can be diluted with water and used for the splatter technique on cards.

Great opacity
I'm so glad I discovered gouache. Really beats trying to lighten areas with white watercolor. Just doesn't work well as far as opacity goes, but this product does the job!

excellent quality product
i've always had good experiences with Winsor Newton paints, been using them for years. oil paint's have always been my preferred medium but i wanted to try something more fast drying. i have had experience with acrylics but found them a little too fast drying and unforgiving for me to work with.having heard good things about gouache i decided to give them a try but i really wasn't sure which brand to buy? there are a number of less expensive brands that come in higher quantity containers. i decided to buy the name product i've come to trust as well as Studio Gouache 100-Milliliter, Permanent White one of the lesser expensive brands.when both products arrived i decided to put both to the test. and while i found the lesser brand's quality frustratingly poor and unworkable the Winsor Newton is a joy to work with. my first day working with them they are an extreme pleasure, very manageable, easy to work with and i'm very pleased with the results. i find them to go on very smooth mix well, and they have a strong pigment.would i continue to use this product in the future? absolutely!

Love this gouache-- hated how it was packaged
This winsor newton gouache is top quality and I find it really easy to work with. However, the paint tube was thrown in a package with a large, heavy, paint palette I bought, just loose. No plastic wrap nothing, just this little paint tube flying around the box. For that reason it showed up kind of crumbled, with paint all over it and the bottom slightly blown out. It's still usable, but annoying that they would package it that way-- be careful with that you're ordering with this item from amazon.

So expensive I switched to acrylic.
It’s the same price as the store unless you use a Michael’s 40% off coupon which I have done many times and you get a bigger tube. I have also bought cheap watercolor sets just for the white. Not all whites are made equal and you get what you pay for- a little goes a long way with this tube.

but not as brilliant as leaf
A reasonable substitute for gold leaf. It is shiny, but not as brilliant as leaf.

The best permanent white gouache I have found.
Any of you who are painting with gouache will know that having lots of a good opaque white handy is essential. Having tried out some cheaper alternatives, I have concluded that, whatever other economies one makes with other colours, a highly pigmented opaque white is worth spending a bit more on and buying cheaper brands is a false economy. This is a very opaque white gouache that is finely ground, has great covering capacity and a pleasant consistency which mixes easily with other colours and lays down evenly. It also seems to rewet nicely when dry, unlike cheaper brands which are prone to quickly setting like rocks, so one actually ends up putting out less of this in the long run.As far as I am concerned to fully exploit the wonderfully forgiving nature of gouache as a medium, that allows you to paint light over dark, rescue areas that have gone wrong and indulge in experiments and second thoughts and still achieve a good finish on your work you need a good, opaque white and plenty of it.This big tube is worth the investment, 37ml being a lot more paint than the standard 14ml tube and will probably work out not much more expensive to use than a cheaper brand, since one uses less. (This is good as layering too much gouache on a piece will cause cracking and flaking which is irreversible and ruin it.) I've found that gouache works well with inexpensive brushes and papers that I wouldn't recommend for watercolours so, even if one buys a more expensive white, it is still an economical medium to explore.Treat yourself to this big tube of white, it excellent.

Really vivid colour that mixes beautifully
What a cracking colour. I've used the large mixed set of W&N for a couple of years now, just making the occasional addition. Having struggled to get vibrant pinks or purples I decided to try this.Really, really vivid straight out of the tube and brilliant when mixing brighter colours such as oranges and purples. Also makes a very good 'black substitute when mixed with a dark green.Good flow and opacity. Solid addition to the set.

Perfect paint.
This is my go to white paint for anything other than acrylics. It's a true white and perfect for highlights as well as for larger areas of painting. The larger tubes are more cost effective, but these little ones also go a long way and are perfect for trying it out.Definitely recommend.

Very small tube.
I have only just purchased this and have used it once. Quality seems fine, but value for money questionable. It is a very small tube and cost around £4.50, which I consider expensive. Next time I require this product I shall purchase it locally, I’m sure it will be cheaper. One positive is that it arrived quickly.
