Great pen/flashlight/glassbreaker...with modification
This pen gets mixed reviews from owners, and I can say that I wouldn't have given this pen more than two stars...until I modified it.At first, you get this pen and think, "Cool! I can break glass if I'm in a burning building or car, defend myself, light my way, AND write with black ink!" Well, it's all good till you take it around with you on an everyday basis. First, its length makes it difficult to clip in a shirt pocket or pants pocket. In fact, clipping it into a pants pocket tempts the possibility of the pen unscrewing in two, or inadvertently activating the flashlight. Second, the top-heavy weight of the pen (due to the AAA battery) makes your writing look like you could possibly have forgotten how to write legibly. The balance of the pen takes time to adjust to, and when you switch to other pens, you have to readjust to them. Argh. And lastly, the included ink refill, at least for me, was extremely fussy about deciding when it would dispense ink so I could write notes in a meeting. Not cool.I can forgive the first two points, because the pen has a lot of features to it, so I can make allowances for its necessary oddities. The ink part, however, was a serious dealbreaker...till I saw that another reviewer bored out the pen to use the cheap Zebra F-301 pen refill. I already own several F-301s, so this was intriguing. That reviewer didn't remember which drill bit to use, so I went ahead and did it myself to find out...and now I'm writing happily with an F-301 refill in my pen! Here's what you do: Put the pen in a vise (wrap it with cloth if you don't want the black finish messed up), then bore it with a 7/64" bit to slightly enlarge the opening. Then, bore it one more time with a 1/8" bit to finish the job. The tip will now be silver, but you can easily touch it up with a permanent marker. Now you can share refills with your Zebra F-301s!As a result, I can now give this product at four-star rating, because I can now carry it for many occasions, instead of having a multifunction pen that can't write!

Nice pen.
I must admit, I have to wonder what is so tactical about an ink pen, but I have been on the hunt for an inkpen that also had a light and wasn't cheap or cumbersome. This pen is still not exactly what I am looking for, but it is the best so far. I have the Nebo pen/lasar/light combo, the Dead on tactical pen/light/glass breaker/ and a few cheap china toys meeting the above and in one case includes a hidden knife too....... all are either too cheaply built or too big, or too heavy. and another common demoninator is the low output of the lights. This is the only pen light I have out of the half dozen better grade pens that use a triple A battery which offers most current for a better output of light (and longer life to boot). The cap does remove to allow for you to write in the dark (why? I don't know), but it also comes off to easily clip on to your hat too.....understand that easy enough..... The ink refill is rather wide, but this seems to offer longer ink life too. (don't know how easy it is to find refills yet). I like this pen, although it is on the heavy side (not as heavy as the other similar models available) and is not quite as long as other models (making it difficult for a good fit on a shirt pocket). This one fits most of my shirt pockets, not all. if you wear small shirts, this wont fit your shirts. It it wasnt for the weight, I'd give it 5 stars.....

Just what I was looking for!
I've been getting these flashlight/Laser Pointer pens at my local computer store. But they used those coin type hearing aid batteries (which were more than a whole new pen) and I could never find refills for the half sized ink carts. Plus I rarely used the laser pointer unless I wanted to tease the dog. This pen uses a single AAA battery and takes Cross refills! The bulb is twice as bright as the other flash light/laser combo, and it feels good in the hand for writing (or stabbing?).As for being a stabbing weapon, I have my doubts. But then again that's NOT why I bought it, so I'm happy. I think to be an effective weapon it would need to be much heaver and have a sharper point. Two things that would make me like it LESS when it was in my pocket. I think in a pinch it would be a better weapon that an ordinary ballpoint pen, but only a little better...I only wish the light was a little easier to turn on. You have to twist it like a Mag Light to turn it on. But I've gotten pretty good at doing it one handed, so I chose not to deduct a star for that.If you want a good flashlight pen that won't cost an arm and a leg for batteries give this one a try. The $8.00 pens I was getting at the computer store cost $15.00 to get more hearing aid batteries @ Target, so I was just buying a whole new pen. This guy should pay for itself after a few battery replacements...--Pete

Flashlight "YAY", Pen "Meh"
The good: The flashlight is super handy to have and is VERY bright. Seriously. It's so bright; its heavy duty and I doubt anyone would want to get poked with it ANYWHERE in a self-defense situation; I saw a lady lock her kid in the car in the heat of summer and got all excited to try the glass-breaking ability out, but heard the fire department sirens and decided she probably didn't want me to break her car window with professionals on the way.The less than good: The clip is flimsy and broke real quickly. And then, with it broke, this jagged metal edge is exposed as is basically impossible to get rid of without a dremmel tool; The pen is about as fancy as those Bics they sell in 100 packs and let you use at the DMV. It makes writing a chore. If I could somehow mate a Uniball with this beast, it'd be solid. To sum up, if you need a flashlight/pen/glass breaker/weapon and care less about the writing part of that combo, this is great. If you're attacking people with this constantly, it's probably great, but I'd have to ask WHY ARE YOU ATTACKING PEOPLE ALL THE TIME?!?
