Q: need to hang 4 fur jackets. will they fit? want canvas bag. not plastic. thanks

I would recommend the "Jumbo Garment Closet 24" x 20" x 54" (Clear) (54"H x 24"W x 20"D)" sold by Richards Homewares. I have both, and the jumbo garment bag above is way better in my opinion...also larger. Most of these types of bags will have a clear plastic front so you can see the items. This is a combo clear plastic and fabric. It should work fine.

Q: how many items does it hold

Annette, it holds 5 coats with room for 1 or 2 more. If you're thinking about lighter clothing than coats & jackets, you'll get more in there without crushing them. I'm pleased with this item.

Q: How foes this hang from an existing metal rod? Does it fasten around a rod with velcro fasteners on top?

There are three curved metal hanging hooks which fit into fabric sleeves at the top of the canvas wardrobe, and then hook over your closet rod the way any metal hanger would.
