Superb book! Probably one of the best books I've read, of any genre. Enjoyed it that much (read it on long return train journey). Fascinating and useful insight into brewing and beer. Interesting historical background, and practical tips a plenty. As explained in intro, probably best if you know a bit about brewing (I've been home brewing for a few years, and am just moving from extract kits to all-grain method) but not absolutely essential. If you're interested in beer, and looking to start brewing, it'll probably inspire you even more. Looking forward to using the book to inform my future design of beers and brewing practice. Once again, superb!

Wer mit Englisch kein Problem hat, findet hier ein tolles und übersichtliches Buch. Es enthält zu den wichtigsten Bierstilen und Brautraditionen Informationen, ohne zu viel oder zu wenig zu erzählen. Die Beispielrezepte sind von professionellen Brauern (international), die wissen von was sie sprechen. Es sind prototypische Rezepte, die auf jeden Fall ein authentisches Bier entstehen lassen.Es ist kein Anfängerbuch, sondern wendet sich an den Brauer mit etwas Erfahrung. Für Anfänger gibt es aber viele gute Bücher. Absolute Kaufempfehlung.

I like this a lot but it lacks something. For instance, the Kolsch recipe is sketchy while the Alt is complete. It also needs what you can substitute and with what. What about dry yeasts when you cannot get the liquid ones? What about the specialized grains? If the recipe calls for a special Scottish malt, can you substitute any other base malts or at least adapt the recipe?

The book is an excellent buy for those interested in craft beers of all styles, even if you decide not to brew your own. At least you'll be wiser when you make your next craft beer purchase.
