Simple, Simple, Simple!
DO NOT LISTEN TO NEGATIVE REVIEWS.Some people say it took them hours to set this upI quite literally discovered and saved a file to it from my cell phone within 30 seconds.Took another 30 minutes to setup with PC for remote access. This thing is SUPER simple to setup and performs extremely well for the price. And no.....I am NOT a network engineer. This was my first ever Server install.

Great solution for backup, value for money. Entry level backup system with strong security
Excellent backup unit.Has strong security implemented as well as all the different services for connecting to the web.Very affordable, strong, robust technology.Downsize:Once is configured, if you change your network infrastructure or IP allocation, the unit is quite hard to be reconfigured.Very heavy (have spin discs inside, therefore is also fragile).

Did not work with my Mac. Slow. Old technology.
I purchased a used Linkstation 210D. I have never used a NAS before but thought it would be a simple replacement for my 15 y/o Airport Time Capsule (that still works!). I am aware of the problems when you mix PC centric devices with Mac systems but was eager to try. After plugging the Linkstation in it started blinking red (error code) which required finding and reading the manual only to learn the manual doesn't cover this issue. One positive was the help desk at Buffalo America was very helpful and interpreted the blinking red as a check of the hard drive and gave me a procedure for checking and initializing the hard drive. Of course they kept to themselves that each step on a 6T drive will take 12+ hours. I should have returned it before I started down that path because I was never able to setup the NAS to work from a Mac. I even spent an hour plus on the phone with them and did all the logical things needed to get it to work. It appears to me that the company has not really looked at Mac solutions for many years as their literature refers to Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra (we are seven OS iterations later and into Silicon Mac). This product probably works OK with Intel Macs but definitely not my 2024 M4 iMac.

Favorite HDD Ever
I've been doing HD backups for my personal use and home office for 30 years. Since 2020, I've been using Buffalo LinkStations. One criterion that I used in selecting Buffalo is that it can simultaneously support both Mac (TimeMachine) and Windows (simple drive mount + copy) backups to different partitions. It does this, reliably. Workhorse backup is over WiFi, and it's slow but usually dependable.I've had a number of these drives over the years - mean time to failure has always exceeded the warranty so far.Note to casual users from someone who's been in The Business: Do not use one backup drive. The time you find out it's not working is the time you need it. I have 2-3 and swap them out every month or so. Keep one in another location if you can. NEVER EVER EVER use a backup drive as your sole repository for anything important. I also use cloud backup as an alternative just in case (i.e. a home fire, burglary), but restoration of terabytes from cloud would be extremely slow. ALL drives fail so don't let that hurt you.Quirks:Buffalo is a Japanese company. I used to work in software for a major Japanese company, and Japanese software design is, well, um.... DIFFERENT. Let's just say non-intuitive.That said, once you figure it out Buffalo's software is actually really good. In fact the best I have dealt with. Software from other manufactures is sometimes totally clueless as to what their users need or even downright hostile. Also the documentation... good luck with that.Think of it as a puzzle you are solving for a prize.I just ordered two more and thought it was about time I did a review.
