Eerdmans Commentary on the Bible Paperback – Import, 13 April 2021

I recommend this to everyone wanting a deeper understanding of the Scriptures without drilling down into controversies or getting lost in the minutia.It is extremely conprehensive for a single volume commentary. Its useful for both scholars and general readers do to its clear, but not simplistic language. This and the New Bible Commentary are the best single volume commentaries available.It has really good scholarship and it helps accessing bible scholarship without needing to know original languages. The intro essays are particularly helpful if you want a refresher on the overview of each book.I recommend this and have bought it as a gift to new learners.

I have just read Goldingay's fascinating commentary on Ezekiel. I thought it was outstanding. His explanations of the most challenging parts of the book for many readers - the visions of the temple and land towards the end - were exceptionally helpful. He made many things clear and opened my eyes to much that I had not seen.

This is one of the most useful Bible commentary's that I have in my library. I have found this edition to be extremely thorough and offers depth in context, theology and culture of the era.

Others have already reviewed this magnificent volume fully. I find it very helpful for an initial assessment of what each bible passage is essentially about as well as giving necessary background details.No one volume commentary can really be adequate for extensive study but it is a good starting point. I also have the Oxford single volume commentary and for me, possibly reflecting my own theological stance, I prefer this one.Index included and a little on New Testament Apocryphal writings which I find intriguing.
