‘Oh, well, so much for no schedules’
California author Cindy C. Murray received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and focused her skills working for Fortune 500 companies until she decided to be a stay at home mom and supplement her time with writing stories for youngsters. SOPHIE AND SCOTTIE'S ADVENTURE OF THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY was her debut - but this new book SOPHIE AND SCOTTIE’S ADVENTURES OF SOMETHING’S FISHY is the strong second book in her series of adventure stories of the young reader ages 5 – 11 years. It seems Cindy has already anchored her audience of readers with the fast-paced mysteries and adventures that feature her favored twins. The synopsis she provides is excellent: ‘Sophie and Scottie, the 11 ½ year old twins, have returned home from their amazing adventure in Mexico. While helping to solve the mystery of the monarch butterflies, they’d met many strange creatures, as well as nice people such as Dr. Drake. So when the doctor shows up at the ranch with a mysterious envelope, the sisters almost fall over! Could their globetrotting Auntie Jill have sent another photograph to put in their magical frame to activate? Was another mysterious adventure about to begin? The twins embark on an amazing journey by riding horseback through the magical crystal frame! Their adventure takes them to a remote Pacific island where a purple dolphin constantly blows bubbles and has a sea otter for a best friend that can't resist shiny objects. But, not all is as it seems on this beautiful island and Sophie and Scottie are up for the challenge to solve the "fishy" mystery. Come and join these two sisters with their special talents that only they can use during this amazing adventure.’Cindy’s dialogue is beautifully constructed - very much in the range of the readers but never down playing their intelligence, and the manner in which she builds her mystery and the girls' response to grownups is at all times well sculpted and well delivered. It continues to look like Cindy has a fine thematic series! Grady Harp, August 15
