Shiawase no Minuet Menuet de bonheur Coloring Book Japan Edition

The media could not be loaded. This is one of two coloring books currently available by talented artist, Kanoko Egusa. The books are printed in Japanese but the artwork is universal in nature and in appeal. The book is pack with wonderfully illustrated animals – both in realistic and fantasy scenarios (with a really heavy emphasis on fantasy.) The title of this book, Menuet de Bonheur translates as Minuet of Happiness (or dance of happiness, if you will.)The 67 pages of designs are well lined up in my book, which I appreciate as many of the designs span across two pages. In addition to the wonderful animals, there are tons of flowers portrayed in this book. The designs are very detailed with some intricate to color areas. The paper is a warm white and has the very slightest of roughness to the tough which makes it great for colored pencils.I am really quite thrilled with this artist's work. I've happy to have both of her current books but I also hope that she will be publishing more in the future. The work is so well done and the designs are so appealing, it just makes me want to start coloring immediately. The only problem is trying to decide which designs to do first.The book has a dust cover in pale puce (light, warm pink.) It has front and back flaps with line drawings but the interior of the dustcover is blank. The outside of the dust cover has a linen-like embossing and has beautiful line art (front and back) that can be colored if you wish. The attached cover is ivory and gold tone on the outside and aqua on the inside.This is what I found while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium:68 Animal and Flower Fantasy Coloring book (includes title and introduction pages)Printed on both sides of the pagePaper is heavyweight, warm white, slightly rough, and non-perforatedGlue BoundMany designs spread across two pagesDesigns merge into the binding area. You will lose essential elements if you attempt to cut pages out.Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper. If you use these, you will ruin the designs on the back of the page.Water-based markers, India ink and gel pens do not bleed through or leave shadows on the back of the page. I'm very impressed with how well this paper works with these wet mediums.Colored Pencils work very well with this paper. I tested both oil and wax-base pencils and got good results with both. My tests were for pigment lay down, layering the same color, layering multiple colors, and blending using a pencil style blending stick.

First off, I need to address shipping...my very expensive coloring book arrived a day later than my Prime promised me, in a crappy Amazon bubble envelope that did not protect the corners of my book. When spending hard earned money, I expect a certain level of care for the product. Cardboard book envelopes need to be brought back.Now let me focus on the positive! The Minuet Menuet de bonheur coloring book is so so adorable. There are beautiful scenes of baby bunnies, ducks, goslings, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, otter (or mink I think), kittens, mice, bees & frogs throughout the pages.There is a variety of different pages, from momma cat reading to a kitten to bunnies loose in the garden, scenes set in Paris and Japan, and a wedding!The book is enclosed in a dust jacket & this may be colored.The pages are double sided, so be aware that use of alcohol markers will ruin the other side of the page.The paper is better than Create Space, but not as nice as Johanna Brasford books.Colored pencils, both wax and oil, are highly recommended.I have seen several Youtubers use watercolors with very little water, with success.I have also seen Stickles, gel pens used on these pages.I would suggest testing your mediums, to ensure that the way you use these products is compatible with the paper.Be prepared to smile, as you journey through this book. The only problem I have, is trying to figure out which page to color first!

I have a lot of coloring books and this one is by far my favorite. I don't color every page in very many coloring books but I most definitely will color every bit of this wonderful book. And these creative illustrations make this book even more wonderful.This coloring book also has very good quality paper with a good amount of toothy fibers that grabs your colored pencil which saves your pencils from being overly used like when you color on smooth paper.I included 3 pictures of my work in this book which I colored with Irojiten which are Japanese colored pencils by TomBow.The first picture of the Momma cat reading her kittens a story; I did with the "Woodland Series" by Irojiten.The second picture of the cat looking in the mirror; I am coloring with the "Rainforest" series by Irojiten .And the Cat Mermaid in the third picture; I am coloring with the "Seascape" series by Irojiten.Amazon sells the complete set or individual series of these Japanese colored pencils; if you are interested.This author has another coloring book available as well here on Amazon and I will have to get that one as well.

Absolutely beautiful coloring book from Japan! It's filled with many images of animals (cats, dogs, bunnies, mice, etc.) dressed in clothes in various scenes both indoors & out, as well as animals in scenes in nature & beautiful flowers are found throughout. It is truly one of the loveliest coloring books I own & absolutely worth the price. It has 85 actual pages to color, plus the title & copywrite pages have images to color as well. In addition, there are 2 postcards & a page of ornaments to cut out & color if you wish. It feels like a nice quality paper & I understand from many other reviews & videos I've read that one can use watercolor pencils, inktense pencils, watersoluable crayons & other wet media. There are other reviews that cover these, marker use & paper quality in great depth here on Amazon. I will surely be using these types of media after starting cautiously with a test page. I watch flip thru videos(many on YT) before buying any coloring book online. Now that I've received this book & seen & felt the quality with my own eyes, I'm going to order her other book, Rhapsody in the Forest today!

I like pretty much everything about this book! Great format 10X10 ins (25x25 cm): it's not too big to be boring to color huge empty spaces and it's not too small to make nice color blends. The illustrations are placed on both sides of the page so it could be tricky to color with wet products. Personally, I prefer colored pencils and soft pastels so it's not an issue for me. I would like to mention the paper as well. It seems to be soft and velvety to compare with European books. I can make several layers and Prisma Colors pencils are blending on the page beautifully. I am not a professional artist to evaluate or describe the paper but definitely, the paper in this book is much easier to build the color up gradually. And the most important thing: this book is overloaded with cuteness! All illustrations are so adorable and sweet - all these fluffy animals in cute costumes and flowers, fruits, candies, sweets, shells and so on. By the way, there are different themes and seasons are going on through the book, so I can color it whole year-round. Also, there are several postcards and note cards to color at the end of the book.

Most amazing colouring book I have ever used!!!! each page is filled with amazing art and the paper holds up to almost any medium (alcohol markers will bleed to the other side). My favourite medium to use in this book is water color. Highly recommend!!!!
