25 Alcohol Breastmilk Tests with Graded Results by Miloo - Breastfeeding Screening Strips for Moms

I have read and heard all sorts of things about drinking and breastfeeding. I also pump for my kiddo so every drop of milk is precious and pumping and dumping would hurt my heart too much, but mommy also needs a glass of wine every now and again. Before finding these strips I would wait a VERY long time to pump to be absolutely sure my milk was alcohol free. These strips provide peace of mind and a proper estimation of how long to wait for my milk to be alcohol free.Like another reviewer, I did a control to start with diluted wine and sure enough that’s the dark blue strip. The white strip is a clean run of breast milk several hours after one glass of wine and the light blue one is what happens if you get hand sanitizer on then pad - beware. I freaked myself out about false positives.In summary - worth it for the peace of mind.

After a long discussion around if breastmilk is safe for baby after having some alcohol, I figured there must be a better way and I found these test strips.My wife and I have a breathalyzer in the car to tell us if we are above the limit for driving. Beyond that, it gave us a great feedback loop so we can now guess what our alcohol level is before testing.I have a feeling that these strips have had a similar effect. My wife used them a handful of time and she now has a good sense of when she can feed the baby, pump or wait.The Miloo strips tell you how long you would need to wait to make your milk safe. I saw another brand named MilkScreen (they look popular), I haven't tested them but reviews say that, contrary to Miloo, they only give a safe/not-safe feedback.

I was skeptical at first, but it definitely works. This was after 4 bottles of 5% ALC beer. I can tell the breast milk has alcohol, but I can’t really tell the difference between all the colors. It started as very light, then gradually got dark over a couple minutes. Hard to tell which color/% of alcohol. The reason why I got the strips is to determine if the breast milk has alcohol or not, so these strips worked out for me.

These strips are great because they give you an idea of the concentration of alcohol in your breastmilk so that you have an idea of when you need to test again. Make sure that you set a timer when you use them; the directions tell you to read results at exactly 2 minutes and disregard after 3. When I tested my milk at 2 minutes the strip was a light blue, but after 3 minutes it was a very dark blue. When I retested 3 1/2 hours later, the test strip was negative and stayed that way after 3 minutes. My take away is that when your milk contains any amount of alcohol, it will continue to darken after 2 minutes, leading you to believe that you will have to wait a longer period of time before yielding alcohol free milk.

I have tried a couple of different kinds of test strips and really liked these. I found that they gave me an accurate reading the two times I have used them. I really like that the gradient alcohol percentages are on each package (that way you don’t have to worry about losing the card that comes with other brands).It takes most people about 1 hour to process each beverage (and a little longer for the alcohol to work it’s way out of your blood stream & milk). When testing this strip against that timing I found that the strips were right on.I would definitely buy these strips again!

There are many alcohol strips out there so it's hard to know which one to go with. This product when I was looking online was the only one that had so many great reviews and the price was good too so I went with it. I tried them this past weekend. I had 2 glasses of wine and checked 1 hour later and the strip showed blue which I figured as much since I usually wait at least 2 hours until I nurse my son. I would def recommend this product.😉😀🙂

If you leave the test out for a while it can turn blue. It says not to read the results after two minutes (I read that after leaving a strip out that was white when I tested then blue in the morning). Emailed the seller but never heard back.

When i want a glass or two of wine at night and still need to pump this gives me the peace of mind that my babe is getting safe milk. No one wants to throw away "liquid gold" but sometimes its necessary and sometimes its not. I would stress this is just a resource! throw away after 3 minutes- it will turn colors and drive you nuts and possibly waste what you just threw away for no reason!
