I produce a podcast and this laptop has been perfect for my needs.

We have an older Acer with good luck, so we bought this one, hoping it will be as good as the old one.We got it, plugged in all day to charge battery. That evening my wife got everything updated and started using with no issues.She turned it of, closed the screen and put on her coffee table for the night. Just before bed, she checked the battery status and it showed fully charged, but the underside of the laptop was extremely hot and it turned the wax on her coffee table white. She turned off again and unplugged from the house power. Next morning it was still warm, I checked the battery status and I could see it went from full charged to no charge during the night.Let the Amazon vendor know and they told me to keep the ports clear and use some kind of cooling pad when in use. If I would have known this, or they put it in the ad when I bought it, I wouldn't have bought it.The screen is clear. It runs fast for what we use it for. It just runs so hot, even when not in use.We now turn it off, leave it on a rack so plenty of air can circulate into it and unplug from our house power. Sometimes it still gets hot and runs the battery down, sometimes it doesn't.Since we cannot get any good customer service, we are thinking about letting the dang thing burn up and get a new one under warranty. Maybe then they will bump up the customer service.It makes no sense that you cannot use a laptop on your lap without a cooling pad or you cannot shut it down for the night without worrying about burning down the house.

A good all round Laptop for home use.

I am extremely disappointed with Acer. I purchased the Aspire 5 because I own an Acer Aspire E 15 which has given me many years of fine service. The Aspire 5 died on me after a few days the first time I left it to recharge overnight. I noticed the next day that the power supply was quite hot. It would not start up. Although this was a bad sign I know that sometimes you just get a lemon, so I didn't hesitate to return it and order another. The second one seemed to be ok but even though I hardly used it the first two months I had it, I was shocked when it died under the same circumstances as the first one, the day before I was embarking on a long trip !! The powersupply suddenly heated up and killed the machine. This is unlikely to be bad luck. It sure looks as if the Aspire 5 has a serious quality problem. This seems to be the pattern with even good companies. They hum along for a long time then suddenly decide to change good manufacturing or quality control practices and subsequently go down the tubes. Its a shame.

Happy with the trim & lightweight laptop, but after only two weeks, the cursor disappeared and the touchpad froze - I wasn't able to do anything with it. Went to Google for a fix & found out there is a tiny icon & hole on the bottom of the laptop; it instructed me to put the end of a paperclip in the hole & press down for 20 seconds - it worked! Cursor reappeared & keyboard worked again. So, I'm hoping I don't have to deal with that issue & inconvenience again - I was all set to return it, but I will continue to use it & see how it goes.

Having the sound all the way up on this laptop you have to put the laptop where the speaker is at just to hear.

All works good but the seller list this as Windows 10 Home. It is a S mode, not home and you will need to make setting changes to get back Windows 10 Home. It is not hard to do but the seller should be honest. Other then the false advertising, everything else works fine so far. Will always update this if that changes.

Needed to buy an inexpensive machine for home use and decided on the Acer Aspire 5. Excellent choice: more than satisfactorily fast (no game playing), solid graphics, minimal junkware to remove. I would certainly buy it again.
