ZS-8 Slotted Replacement Nut for Banjos

What a cool idea
There was a zero Glide nut in a USG gold tone banjo I bought a few years ago, thought I would try one for my Deering, took a while to get it sized to fit properly but if you're careful and not sand too much off the back and bottom you're okay. Cutting the ends of the Fret and the nut are fairly easy, love the fact that they include four different fret sizes and it's great not having to do any cutting on the nut itself. I like the tone quite a bit but I don't know if it's better than what I already had. The only thing I'm really fighting is how sharp notes are in the first few Frets so I may have to cut a little bit of the fingerboard off and move the nut and fret up slightly so that it notes in tune. Most banjo players don't even realize how sharp it can be in the first few Frets and how flat it can be past the 12th. This can be exasperated by the fact that banjo strings are so thin

Excellent replacement!
New player here. I bought this to replace the original nut on my cheap banjo so that the distance between the strings was larger. Not only did it help me with cording but the sound quality is much, much better. Don’t know if it would do the same on a high end banjo but I am extremely pleased with the improvement. It wasn’t complicated at all to do the replacement. I beveled the ends a bit to keep a little meat on the top of the nut. Love it and highly recommend using one.

Good Product--Far Better Than I'd Hoped
I was going to be making a new nut for one of my banjos, so I decided I'd just try one of these. Today I did the fitting and installed it. What a surprise! I was stunned by the positive change in overall tone and playability. I was hoping just to break even for my hour of work, but wow! It was a far bigger change than I could have expected. In the past, I always associated the zero fret concept with low-end instruments from the sixties and seventies. No more. Gold Tone has something special here. The only reason I didn't give it all five stars is because the spacing is slightly off between the 3rd and 4th strings. I would have given it a 4+ or 5- if I knew how. I've installed a good many nuts in banjos, and I've never gotten the spacing perfect, either.

Like a new banjo
I just added a Snuffy Smith bridge to my banjo and now with the Zero Glide Banjo Nut I have a really great sounding banjo. I am really happy with the results of adding the Zero Glide Nut to my banjo. Thank you!

Works well, The string slots do not match up ...
Works well, The string slots do not match up and are slightly wider than the nuts on my Recording King and Epiphone Banjo's. I installed it to my Recording King Banjo anyway. It is still very playable, the strings are just slightly closer to the end of the fret board. I do notice an improvement in tone when playing open notes.

works..not my thing though
Wasn't super impressed, made the banjo sound different and buzzed after a while. I stick with a properly slotted bone/ebony/or mop nut.

Did exactly what I needed
Plenty of extra material to work from to get it to fit your particular instrument. Very low profile once done and really brightened the sound on my old banjo. A bit of extra work but you save it in not having to cut the notches.
