Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Classroom in a Book: The Official Training Workbook from Adobe Systems

I purchased this product along with the Actionscript 3.0 Classroom in a book as I needed to learn Flash CS5 quickly so that I could use it to create an interactive application required for a university assignment.This book gave gave a great introduction to Flash CS5, allowing me to become familiar with the Flash environment and many of its features fast enough so that I still had plenty of time left to complete my assignment. I found that the examples were clear, easy to follow and interesting enough to engage me for hours at a time without becoming boring.My advice for people that are considering purchasing this product, would be to also purchase the Actionscript 3.0 classroom in a book. The reason for this is because this product is lacking several things which I considered important but were mentioned in the Actionscript 3.0 book (simple things like adding scroll bars to a textbox springs to mind).My only other criticism of this book is that upon opening the pouch in the back of the book to use the CD I noticed that the disc was badly scratched. Inserting it into my laptop confirmed that it was scratched so bad that it could not be read!Due to living in Australia and having a tight time frame to work within as a result of my assignment, sending the whole book back just to get a replacement CD was not on the cards, so I had to find a copy of the exercise files online.I subtracted one star due to the annoyance caused by the scratched disc, this would be a 5 star text otherwise.

I purchased this because I have experience with other versions of the Adobe 'Classroom in a Book' products and have found them to be consistently well put together and concise. I decided to buy the digital copy because it is cheaper and my desk space is limited. It's much easier to do the lessons here with a window open on the computer rather than flipping back and forth between the hardcopy and the computer.I neglected to check how and where or even if I could download the support DVD with lesson material and video instruction. It does come with the physical book. I just expected that someone would send me a link to the download. This did not happen. I looked in the book as far as the first lesson, but again no links. I double checked this Amazon page and again came up with a blank. So I called Amazon for support. After speaking with several tiers of CS no one was able to help, but they did offer to refund my purchase. This was good news. I elected to wait and see if I could get an answer from Adobe Press the next day (this was after business hours).On the off chance that I had missed something in the book I decided to check the appendix inside the book and that is where I found the link. So be aware that the link to this necessary part of the book is not very well documented but it does exist.

The cover was a little more banged up than I expected, but the pages are in perfect condition and the CD was in perfect condition! It arrived on time as well.As far as the book itself goes, it is so incredibly helpful in learning Adobe Flash! Before I had this book three weeks ago, I had never stepped foot into the Flash program nor seen any tutorials. After following the step-by-step instructions, I am now easily creating my own animations. This book has both detailed instructions written out as well as images to really help you understand what they mean. Repetition is in many of the exercises so that you really remember how to do different steps and effects.I highly recommend this book to any beginning animator and graphic designer! (I'm not intending to go into animation, but Flash is a great program to be able to add to your resume!)

It's been a while since I got this book but I wanted to go back and catch all the orders I missed reviewing in the past.Let me start by saying, this is a great reference for a beginner or an intermediate learner of Adobe Flash.I found this to be an excellent source of information in teaching myself Flash (I've known Photoshop at an intermediate level since before wanting to learn Flash, however I thought it was time to add Flash into my skills as well.) This book teaches you great concepts for the program and comes with a CDROM as well. It really is a classroom in a book and I still reference it for some things when I pull up Flash to work on a project.

Although I am still working my way through this book for a Web Animation class I'm currently taking, so far I really like this book. I have used several of the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" titles and they all do a very good job of teaching you the fundamentals of the software. The only minus I can give the book so far is that the screenshots of the software screens in the book don't always match the actual screen you are working on, which can be a bit confusing when your trying to follow the directions for an exercise, so I am wondering if they are of a previous version of Flash and not CS5. Overall it is a great book for beginners who want to learn the software.

This book arrived very quickly and I didn't pay for any special shipping. I borrowed this book from my instructor and didn't leave it far enough out of my daughter's reach and she promptly removed the front cover once she got a hold of it (she is one) so I purchased this as a replacement for that one. It is in better condition than the borrowed book. I was a bit hard pressed to give it away since it is so nice, but I do not feel right about what happened to the other book. I have purchased items on Amazon before, and probably will again since I have never failed to be pleased with what I have gotten.

I have been waiting for a book like this for years. It teaches Flash CS5 in the form of a series of lessons. Readers follow along using lesson files on the CD. Clearly, the best way to learn how to use software is to actually get hands-on experience. This books guides you through the process, building knowledge and confidence as you go.The writing is clear and highly readable and well illustrated. The accompanying CD also contains further video lessons which are very thorough and assume no prior knowledge. Every step is explained clearly, without being patronising.Highly recommended.

Having seen what Flash could do I wanted to develop applications myself, but got a bit overawed by the amount of information out there. This is a good start to learning Flash Professional, with concise lessons and basic examples.Just wish Adobe would include this level of tutorial with the product, and not as an optional update.

Love these books, it's a great buy for beginners into CS products, would like to see an additional series for professionals with in-depth tutorials etc. Book is value for money and it does what it suppose to. Mine came with a CD Rom as specified in the product area and the chapters are easy to follow. Recommend it to anyone.

I found the instructions very difficult to follow. In many cases, I couldn't carry out the instruction as the icon or menu item didn't exist. It took time to find the proper procedure. Annoying.

You must have a good sound knowledge of computer applications and be interested to take the time to read and go through the book.
