My great nephew absolutely loved this gift! It kept him and his friends busy for quite a while

I hope the grandkids come to love it as one of their favorites
Much the same as a Little People House that I recently was able to review, I like this toy a lot and hope that the grandkids in the family come to love it as much as my siblings loved one of these that we had many decades ago. Realistically, it doesn't matter whether or not I like or love this toy as its purpose in our household is to serve as a toy that the grandkids will spend many hours playing with and hopefully loving as one of their favorites. As an adult, and as the person that was purchasing this item, I'm glad that it is still made as durably as it was decades ago (or at least it appears to be made that way). The one my siblings had lasted through several years and beyond and would likely still be available for some of my nieces and nephews to play with were it not for moisture issues in the basement of my parents old home. I don't doubt for a minute that this toy will also last and hold up to whatever abuse the grandkids may try to put it through. The figures remain adorable and are bright and shiny enough to continue to attract the attention of the children that would be playing with them. They are a bit more refined than they were when I was much younger as that was an area that the manufacturer could improve in over the years. Other improvements over time include the added sounds that will help to attract youngsters and keep them interested in playing with these toys.Storage of the smaller parts (which are not too small for most toddlers) within the barn is easy, simply close the barn in clam shell fashion and it is all stored together and ready for the next time you want to pull it out for playtime.

PLAYSKOOL BARN
Received in a timely manner. Batteries that came in barn didn't work. You will need a Philps head screwdriver to replace batteries and to remove the hinge pins to put together the two halves.

Great Toy for Kids, but Not Perfect.
This is a new revival of an old favorite. I am an early intervention provider who works with young children in their homes to encourage development. Like most of my Fisher-Price items, this play set is sturdy, comes with several pieces, washes easily, and closes for convenient storage. BUT, I already own an earlier version of this farm set, so I realize the differences that you can expect with this version. There is no door at the bottom of the silo! This is my biggest complaint! My young clients love to toss things down the chute and we get an opportunity to discuss: "Where did it go?" and "Open it." The children get to learn about object permanence, vocabulary, and fine motor skills --All from a simple door, which this version is missing. Instead, they toss it down the chute and it pops out the bottom. They can learn cause and effect, but they would've learned that if we just kept the door open. There are less animal sounds that the children can generate with a touch of a button. I kind of like this change. I generally prefer to model animal sounds and encourage imitation when I play with kids. I have experienced that many kids will become distracted by hitting the button to make the sounds, and will not engage in meaningful play where they can gain the most benefit. However, to get past this, I can just turn the sound off on either version, but with the older version I could turn off more sounds with that little switch. The hinged section in the middle of this new version changes the layout. The pens aren't as roomy for the animals, and my clients can't treat the barn like a drive through for the tractor with this version, but the difference is negligible. I like how it easily folds for storage, which was not an option with the older version.

Speech Therapist Approved!
I looked at several different farm sets before deciding on this one. As a speech therapist I have frequently used farm sets to help build language skills in young children so I of course wanted one for my own daughter when she turned one. There are lots of great sets out there and you can’t really go wrong with any of them. I personally chose this one because it doesn’t have too many bells and whistles, is easy to carry and store, has a “classic” farm look, and has a nice variety of animals. Sets like this are great tools to use when teaching language to your child during pretend play: ie., animals, animal sounds, prepositions, verbs, etc…. My daughter is only one but she loves playing with this farm set and she is starting to learn her animals and animal sounds when we play together. All in all I love Little People for the their durability and kid friendly designs!
