Q: Will it work on tiles?

I'm sure they will. I have them on laminate and I keep them under the furniture permanently. They work really great.

Q: Is this good to use on a hard wood floor?

Yes, I used them in my floor as well as my daughter's house and they work well. They don't scratch the floor.

Q: Can 500 lbs furniture safely slide using 4 of these?

I didnt find them very functional for light furniture. They didnt slide well on our office floor that had just been waxed. We were trying to protect the floor and our backs but ened up carrying the book shelves anyway because they werent heavy enough to keep pressure on the pads to keep them in place under the furniture to allow us to slide the furniture. Cant really prpvide you with a guess on how they would work for something 500 lbs.

They aren't 3.5 inches thick - they are 3.5 inches wide
