Q: can you edit documents scanned with this in word or equivalent program?

I am not sure, but if you scan a document as a PDF document then you can edit your scanned document on your smartphone or tablet using the " PDFpen for iPad " app. It is a little pricey ( about $15.00 ), but well worth it, considering the many things you can do with it. In this app you can edit the document, including making notes in longhand and highlight text with different highlight colors. You can purchase PDFpen for iPhone or PDFpen for iPad in the App Store. I think there is, also, an android version.

Q: Can the height be adjusted to make it easier to scan/edit objects of different sizes.

No. The way that it is constructed does not allow you to adjust the height of the box, nor any other dimensions. The box folds from a flattened position, and uses magnets to stand, and fold up and together. Then, you place your smartphone on the top of the box, match up the camera with the little hole on the top of the box, positioned to capture documents in the bottom tray. The bottom is an enclosed tray about an inch high, acting as a lip to keep documents centered. I'm not looking at mine right now, but we use it for 8.5 inch X 11 inch standard paper doc's. It's a bit flimsy, but we have it in semi-trucks with limited space, so the driver can put it away after use. One thing to keep in mind, you can always crop documents that are smaller than standard size. You may want to double-check on exact dimensions, but we have found that it is sturdy enough, and compact enough, for road usage.

Q: Is this made out of paper?

Yes, it is. It's stiff paper, but paper all the same.

Q: how would this do for scanning comics with a sony experia z?

We haven't tried with this model of phone before. Scanning comics may not yield the results you hope for, as they have a spine which causes it not to lay flat on the surface.
