Works well if you follow the instructions to a T
This stuff seems effective enough IF, and this is a big IF, you do exactly as the instructions recommend and set this to auto spray every morning and evening based upon the light sensor on the lantern. When I followed this regimend I noticed a marked decrease in mosquitos in my back yard (and I live about 200 yards from a swamp so this is a big deal). If I sprayed bug spray and used this stuff as directed, I could be outside for hours and get maybe one or two bug bites. Before getting this I would average a bug bite every 5 minutes. Its horrible out here. Bug spray does virtually nothing and to be outside I usually set up a netted tent enclosure. Now if you dont follow the directions and just spray every once in a while, whenever you want, that wont control the mosquitos much at all. I tried to not use so much spray by manually spraying the lantern only in the mornings by way of included remote control (I have 2 of these by the way) then the mosquitos would be diminished a little after a week, but I would still get bitten. The problem is that this stuff is so expensive I hate leaving it on autospray. Two cans of this can set me back 25 bucks, and they only last a month. So the mild weather mosquito season around me goes from April to October... thats not alotta money, per say, but it can add up. What I found to be just as effective and waaaaaaaay cheaper is getting one of those bug killer bottles that you attach to your hose and spray your entire yard and perimeter of your yard. This keeps my yard completely bug free for about 4-5 days. If its extra hot out or if it rains, that poison decomposes quick and the mosquitos return in force. If its average temeprature with no rain, I have had it mosquito free for 2-3 weeks (even though the bottle claims protection of up to 8 weeks). Its some 'Cutter' brand stuff. Heres a link http://www.amazon.com/Cutter-Backyard-Repellent-Concentrate-HG-61067/dp/B000PGE032/ref=sr_1_2?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1346160852&sr=1-2&keywords=cutter+backyard+bug+controlSo in the end, if you have the funds to buy enough of these lanterns to cover your yard (they do look quite pretty and are pretty resiliant) then I would say go for it. This stuff is also supposedly less harmful to other animals and breaks down before contaminating ground water. Thats more than I can say for other mosquito repellants out there.Update May 2013: I have only recently gotten around to updating this review even though the sprayers no longer work. They worked fine when using the first bottle. When those bottles were empty (I have 2 of these setups) I replaced them with 2 new bottles and they would no longer spray. When I pressed the button I would get a half a second spit, thats it. I cannot really recommend something that no longer functions in this regard, and it wasnt some fluke because both units worked great on the first bottle, and both didnt work upon installing the second bottle. I even tried new batteries but to no avail. I would not recommend anyone buying this. For the money, I would pay a professional to spray your yard.

works very well
I got this unit pretty fast. I put it in area where the mosquitos was really bad. Before going out to that area i spray and have no problems.

worked for a while
when this was working i was pleased with it. i hung it in an screened pool area, and used the remote to spray every morning in no-see-um season. i got it last june (2012) and brought it in for the winter. now that i need it, it won't spray. i replaced the batteries and wiped it down, but when i use the remote, it responds with the blinking light, but the sprayer only sprays inside the top, no spray comes out the nozzle. i contacted skeeter defeater online, and explained the problem but they didn't respond. the warranty ran out in the interim, thus my bad review.

These things are great. I have a mosquito allergy and this really cuts the critters down. Have read they may discontinue and that is sad. The only downsides are the refills being so expensive and not lasting that long. You also have to aim them carefully so they cover the area you want and don't blast you in the face. If mosquitos are toxic to you and you just want to be outside or keep them from flying in your doors. It works 85% of the time the other 15%being when the batteries die or it runs out of spray. The remote will let you give it an extra blast around the dusk to dawn timer as well.

Works perfectly!
Here in Florida we have a large courtyard off our townhouse that was unusable much of the year due to the mosquitoes. After reading tons of reviews for all different types of things to kill these pests, we settled on the Skeeter Defeater. We used one month of the regular dawn and dusk treatment which used a whole can of spray. After that, we would only spray before using the patio. The remote control comes in very handy as we can use it from inside.
