Didn't See That Coming!
Ending abrupt, shocking and unexpected! Didn't see that coming;totally forgot the prologue! Don't think Anita expected it either! Guess it takes one to know one.

changed my mind
This book is very well written. I initially gave it five stars but after thinking about it, I decided the book’s ending was not up to the level of the rest of the story. The conclusion was too abrupt with little to hint at it. But I did enjoy the good read!

I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series
Torquil MacLeod has written a fast-paced mystery with two engaging main characters. Yes, Ewan Strachan never has reached his full potential, but he's a bit of a charmer, and it's easy to forgive him a failure or two. In fact, the reader wants him to make a complete success of his interview with the famous film director and his beautiful movie star wife-- after all, Ewan's got the inside track, doesn't he? In her own way, Inspector Anita Sundström is just as appealing. She's a bit of a loner, having tired of the dating scene, and she's dedicated, hardworking, and just doesn't know when to quit.If you like mysteries with more twists and turns than Lombard Street in San Francisco, Meet Me in Malmö is the book for you. I had an idea about the killer's identity from the very beginning, and I enjoyed seeing how that idea held up as the pages turned. As good as the plot twists were, I have to say that the ending-- with that last shocking volte-face-- was very abrupt. It almost felt as though the author had written one very long novel and decided that this was the best place to divide his manuscript into two books. Some readers may be put off by that ending, but it made me want to read book number two.Do you enjoy crime fiction set in Scandinavia? Torquil MacLeod has written three Anita Sundström books, and I fully intend to read them all.

Ending loses one star
For the most part I really enjoyed this book. The writing was crisp and absorbing. I loved the Swedish sense of place. There were quite a few surprising twists and turns in the plot. In fact, but for the very end, I would have given it five stars. But the “surprise” ending was really just one twist too many. As one other reviewer put it, if the book had ended just one chapter before it would still have been an amazing twist, and would have fit much better with the whole scenario of why the meeting in Malmo in the first place. But the actual ending didn’t really fit well with the whole reason for setting up a meeting in Malmo, and didn’t fit in with much of the interior dialog in the book. Also, the last word spoken by the murderer doesn’t make a whole lot of sense when figuring out the motive for this murder either. It was all quite a let down to me. But I did enjoy it enough until that moment that I’ll probably try the next book in the series - even if only to find out what is “special” about Lasse’s girlfriend Rebecka!

Review Disappeared, Again!
This is my second time writing a review for this book.British, hack journalist, Ewan Strachan, runs into an old school friend, Mick Roslyn, who has become a popular Swedish film producer.Ewan travels to Sweden to interview Mick, but Mick’s wife, a famous film star is suddenly murdered!Introducing, Inspector Anita Sundstrom, who’s got her work cut out for her. There’s a plethora of suspects:The British journalist, Ewan Strachan. Husband Mick, who has a secret girlfriend. The girlfriend’s husband. An amorous, love sick stalker. Even the mysterious, Swedish secret intelligence. While Sundstrom is running in circles trying to solve the murder, countless clues and investigations lead to nowhere.Like Sundstrom, l was lead around the field, multiple times, and in and out of closets. What I’m saying is, the story led me everywhere! This is one book that has millions of twists and turns. If you like your mysteries thoughtful and misleading, with a (never seen that coming, ending), then this is the book for you.

Malmo, movie stars and murder
I've been reading a lot of Scandinavian crime novels lately and Torquil MacLeod is a new author to me. I enjoyed the book with its setting in southern Sweden, and the characters who are from the worlds of entertainment and journalism. Glitzy movie stars and a journalist from England who is the friend of one of Sweden's popular movie moguls combine to make up a cast of characters that result in murder and a tough case for Malmo's police department and especially for Inspector Anita Sundstrom. Inspector Sundstrom has enough problems dealing with a blustery boss and male co-workers much less a case of the murder of a movie star. This is a hard case to figure out both for Inspector Sundstrom and for the reader. The murderer could be any one of several people, but it's the end that will knock you right out of your reading chair and make you spill your coffee, tea or Diet Coke. I was by myself when I finished the book and said out loud, "You're kidding!" because I was that surprised, then immediately downloaded the second in the series, "Murder in Malmo."If you like mysteries, then you should enjoy this series of four set in Malmo, Sweden.

Leitura que aguça o leitor a prestar atenção nos detalhes
Realmente esse livro me surpreendeu!

The twist was perfection..
Newcastle: Ewan Strachan a two bit journalist who went to college in Durham with Mick Roslyn twenty years ago. Now Mick's the subject of an interview having achieved success as a film director in Sweden.Mick invites Ewan to visit him in Malmö to continue the interview and meet his wife Malin Lovgren.Malmö: Ewan arrives on time but no sign of Mick, on trying the door he walks in to discover the body of Malin crumpled on the floor.Enter the attractive Anita Sundström, detective with the Malmö police, she's determined to turn over every loose stone and asks the questions her boss overlooks but they have a lot of motives and it's not going to be as easy as she'd hoped to ensure that the killer faces justice.Masterful twist that came completely out of the blue!!

An acceptable series start
I’m never sure about authors writing novels about another very different culture. They rarely have the same atmosphere & feeling .This book does nothing to dispel my view. The author is too anxious to demonstrate his ‘expertise” of Sweden, particularly of Malmo. Lots of ‘packing’ throughout the book discussing the geography , history & social life all which sounds like clunky second hand knowledge. Being a fan of Swedish crime noir the police & locals do not sound like they are an extension of a Brit crime series. The action scenes are implausible sounding like a corny 1950s cops & robbers tv chases. The plot has too many red herrings & the conclusion is non-real.Reviews of later books state they markedly improve so look forward to reading book two & three.

It Bored Me
I was really looking forward to this, so much so that I paid for an unknown author to me, something I rarely do these days. However, I found myself only clearing about 20 pages per reading session, then it got onto conspiracy theories and South Africa at about 36% and I just gave up. I'm no conspiracy theorist myself, I think most of them talk a load of old twaddle, but as long as they keep out of my business I just roll my eyes and move along. So I'm afraid I wasn't going to plough through it on my Kindle in my own precious reading time. For some reason he sometimes launches into American spelling-recognize or realize, for example, which always gets my back up.....then this line speaks for itself on the annoyance factor, "He had been known to use reviews from The Scotsman, virtually word for word, of films he didn't fancy, virtually word for word, so he didn't have to see the movies himself."However, there were NO spelling or grammatical mistakes, which these days is to be highly commended indeed. I won't be bothering with anymore in this series, though.

New Swedish Detective for me
I came across these books by chance and, after reading the first in the series, I bought all seven on Kindle. The characters are both varied and "true to life". The main character is a female detective, Anita Sundström working for the serious crimes squad in Malmö - shades of Wallander in neighbouring Ystad. The author must know Malmö very well because the characters and their surroundings are described vividly and the stories flow fast and smoothly with many unexpected twists. The only part which does not ring true, in my opinion, is the obsessive attraction which Anita has for a convicted murderer. But I still highly recommend this series although I caution that they should be read in order because the author makes reference to previous events which have taken place in the series which could be a little baffling if you start part way through.
