Strong scent of wood
I bought this not realizing it was castile soap. I don't typically use bar or castile soaps because of the residue they leave on my skin. The first ingredient here is coconut oil, & more than anything, my skin feels moisturized after use. Lightly oiled.I wanted something that had a distinct natural wood scent, & after reading the reviews (someone said it smells like moldy wood lol) I knew I'd love this. It's definitely a strong, natural scent. My partner says it smells like the lumber aisle of home depot. Both me & bathroom smell like wood for a good while after I shower. This was exactly what I was going for.-1 star bc the texture takes a little getting used to, but otherwise, I love the stuff so far.

4 Star product, 0 Stars for environmental sustainability.
We use this for body & hair. It's fantastic. However, the company really should figure out a bulk solution. We have gone through HUNDREDS of the little plastic bottles. Doesn't seem very environmentally sound. Otherwise, would get 5 stars.

Decent, but not great
I had procured the Cascade Forest variant of this product. As mentioned by several reviewers, there is a bit of a “dill” aroma to this product. I think one reviewer got it right with juniper + glycerin = dill. The aroma in the shower has more of that “dill” smell, but afterwards, the aroma is more earthy and woodsy once dispersed. Being Cascade Forest, I expected more pine, fir, etc., but it seems to just be more generic wood with a hint of evergreen. The soap feels very soapy (slippery and slimy) and leaves your skin grippy having removed all the oils (I could see this not doing so well for people with dry skin). My skin seems to be fine once out of the shower and dried off, but it makes me wonder how much it is stripping off and how much it leaves behind to protect my skin. It doesn’t lather well either and I find myself using more of this product than I would normally do for a traditional body wash. I probably use about twice as much as I normally would.Overall, I can deal with the smell of the body wash as it isn’t unpleasant (especially out of the shower), but the performance isn’t what I was hoping for. It’s the way my skin feels immediately after and the fact that I just can’t seem to get it to lather at all.

Juniper Ridge products are AMAZING!!!
When it comes to scent, there are no products that can compare. My husband & I have had the pleasure of meeting and taking a workshop with the creator of the line. his products are quite unique. Using many natural elements he is able to completely embody the smell of nature. In addition to fresh pine or redwood, he distills lichen, bark and even things like dirt to capture the true essence of the forest, or region his products represent.

My Favorite Castile Soap
I've been using Juniper Ridge products for the past year, their Castile soaps are my favorite. The Desert Cedar is my preferred smell, it's deep and very earthy. I agree with a previous reviewer that I would like to see a bulk purchase option, even a 16oz bottle would go a long way towards increasing sustainability. With that said, Castile soaps are concentrated so they do last a long while. In response to one reviewer's disappointment at the lack of foam, these products are free from foaming agents. If you're unsure about the smells, the manufacturer does sell 2oz versions. If you like natural products with truly earthy smells then you are likely to be happy with these products.
