When using serum-free media in cell culture, it is important to cryopreserve cells also in a medium that is also free of serum. Akron Biotech's novel cell-freezing medium contains no serum, but rather methylcellulose and DMSO. After freezing and thawing, a very high percentage of viable cells are obtained, and they also show excellent attachment ability as well as growth performance. In fact, comparative studies have shown that in most cases, higher viability and adhesion percentages are obtained, in comparison to serum-containing freezing medium. Therefore, the use of this serum-free freezing medium is also recommended for cell cultures employing serum-supplemented growth media.
