One of the best tributes to Bo Randall I've ever seen.....
The Blackjack HALO Attack 14 w/fingetgrooved micarta handles, (Bha14fg) is the absolute ounce for ounce best replica of the famous Randall 14 Attack, made by Randall Made Knives in Orlando Fl. from a production knife company in the world today, Imho.I come from a time in American knife collection history when the Randall #1-7 Fighter was THE knife you had to have in your safe if you considered yourself to be a bonafide collector worth a "hill o' beans".I remember seeing 100's of articles in every knife magazine you could name, lined w/ 12 yr. old kids who had anywhere from 5to 7 of the darned things....I didn't have the cash for my first and only! But I wanted something different. I wanted a "solid", chunky Randall w/ some fingergrooves...along comes the Attack....now I was really chompin' at the bit"!!Well, that was 15 yrs ago..I'm 47 yrs old now...Yes I shouldve ordered my beloved toy from the "Knife Man" in Orlando years ago...I haven't, truth is I probably won't.I knew that Blackjack Knives had re-opened for business, so one day while looking around on the net, I caught a look at their "Classic" Knives lineup. There it was!!The very knife style I was looking for at way less than $600 and up I was seeing on E-bay, High Carbon Steel, micarta, leather, the works. And a convex edge. I ordered from another non-Amazon affiliated company (at a cheaper rate than listed for the knife here) and was not dissapointed. Razor Sharp. Fit was excellent. Finish on the steel was 98 out of 100, no rust, paint, or uselessness. Small cosmetic flaws disappeared w/ Semi-chrome polish and TLC. My handles are a moss green color, just like the R14 I looked at in TN, at SMKW...an absolute compliment to the color I wanted the sheath to have. The sheath is made of heirloom grade saddle quality oak sole leather, just like the good ol' days. I applied two coats of Cetaphyl skin cream (believe it or not), three seperate coats of mink oil, and finally Vaseline. No dye was used at all. This produces a very dark brown, "old baseball glove" finish, without over softening the leather, staining the A2 Tool Steel blade, or destroying the classic white stitching. If you want an "old school" Special Forces style, Vietnam Era combat knife, this is it. If you are trained to use a knife in a combat situation, one look at this knife will fully explain the need for such a fine weapon. It also "batons" shakewood, performs camping/utility chores, and can be resharpened by hand w/ various grits of emory cloth, or KEPT sharp w/ ceramics in the field. You can make a "survival kit" in an Altoids tin w/ more stuff in it than John Rambo had in his famous "Elephant hunter" knives, lash a pouch on w/ some 550 cord, and hit the woods if you had to do so, Take a 20" small forest axe, or a good Khukuri along, and a Mora for the "gut work". You'll be good to go...Full tang?? Well, the fingergrooves on the bottom of the grip are completely micarta covered, great, no rust worries there. Handles are pinned on, no screws. My only complaint?? Aluminum guard, but hey, "It's fer fightin' not playin' around!!Is it a Randall?? No. But considering the fact my dear wife has bought me every other knife I wanted to add to the collection, moot point... Tomorrow's another year to start collecting again... Thanks to Blackjack and Bark River Knives for a classic.

big fan
have always been a big fan of blackjack knives after I bought my first one in 1990. since then I have bought and owned 7 different models, I say owned because I had the bright idea to sell some of them. For the price they are some of the best knives one can own, and was happy when the brand was resurrected. The fit and finish on these knives rivals any handmade knife out there, and you just cant beat the price.
