Great products. We put it in our duck coop drilled a hole in the center and Put in a drain-for easier cleaning. My husband ran a hose from the water source and drilled a hole into the side of their duck coop. He put a drain and hose in the bottom of the basin and in the floor and a handle to open and close the drain. Siliconed the whole thing. It works amazingly. Kind of like a constant filling sink. The drain clogs every so often with their pine chips but is easily cleared with a bent coat wire. We may modify in the future to use a sink drain or PVC instead of a hose to drain. We may get a second one as we have 5 ducks now and not 2. The ducks love it.

My old plastic waterer finally cracked and started leaking. I came across this metal waterer and decided to give it a try. The Little Giant 88SW arrived quickly from Amazon. Unlike my old plastic waterer, the 88SW does not come with a drain, and so for permanent installation, cleaning would not be as easy. No problem - I order a “Decor Star PU-001-TB 1 5/8" Bathroom Faucet Vessel Vanity Sink Pop Up Drain Stopper Without Overflow Brushed Nickel” for $19.95 from Amazon and added it to the 88SW. Here’s how: Hold the 88SW up to its final installed position (against a wall, for example) and put in a few drops of water. The water drops will collect at the low spot of the 88SW where you will mark and drill a 1-5/8” hole. I used a Bi-metal hole saw to cut the 1-5/8” hole. The pop-up drain stopper works nicely – push to open, push again to close… Once the drain is opened, the 88SW begins to refill and creates a “flushing” action to rid any debris collected at the bottom. I have 2 Mastiffs, so drool is a constant battle.For connection to my garden hose faucet, I ordered the “Watts D60U Universal Dishwasher Kit with 3/4-Inch FGH EL, Stainless Steel, 60-Inch” for $12.65 from Amazon, which included all the necessary connectors for this installation.The 88SW is well-built and it's made in America. The installation is simple. "Rusting" may eventually be a problem - only time will tell!

This waterer is everything I could have asked, except that my dogs won't use it. They will lick up every puddle on the back porch and drink up all the water trapped in pans and garden pots, but just sniff at this and give it one tentative taste, even after months. I suspect the zinc plating gives the water an off taste that doesn't bother stock animals but is offputting to dogs' more sensitive noses. Otherwise, it's very durable, has weathered well and mounted easily. Be forewarned that it has an odd-sized connection for which you will need an adapter to hook up - I found a 1/2" female to garden-hose male that let me use a short garden hose, but most options were $10 or so in parts to get to any kind of standard connector end.

We've been using this product for only about a month but we love it. I works well, with a little adjusting right after we installed it. Lots of confusion about what type of product needed to hook it up though so we bought extra things we didn't need. It comes with a 1/2 inch plastic male threaded connector out of the right side of the bowl. It will not screw directly into a water hose. We ended up skipping the waterhose idea and ran a splitter to hard plumb this and then still be able to use the water hose at the same time. You will need to wash out the bowl from time to time as it collects dirt, grass, etc. I recommend ordering this product and then going to a local hardware store to get the proper connecting pieces. Great product, wish we'd have had it years ago.

In Texas with 4 dogs it is almost impossible to keep their bowl full of water! Especially when you have 4 dogs that love to tip over their bowl and play in it! This device has been wonderful. We never have to worry about coming back to dogs that are very thirsty because they have no water. It works similarly to a toilet bowl with a float to refill when water is taken out. I would have rated 5 stars if it had a drain like the plastic version. If I had to do it over again I would purchase that one. With no drain it is almost impossible to clean out due to the fact you have to mount it to a wall. There is no quick way to remove it from the wall; for example keyhole, holes in the back. NO- you have to unscrew the whole darned thing. You will have to buy some plumbing parts if you want to set it up to your regular outside hose as the female/male piece is smaller than a regular garden hose. Other than that we love it.

I ordered two of these waterers in April 2012 and they arrived quickly and complete in the box. They also installed pretty easily. I thought my pressure activated horse waterer problems were solved and for a couple months they were. I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews.It is now September 2012 and both are rusting even though they are supposedly galvanized. They also began leaking where the intake is and where the plastic plug is on the opposite side. Good thought to have the option of intake on both sides - bad execution with a poor gasket on the intake side and no gasket at all on the other (silicone worked for a while but rust took care of that).The worst part is the float mechanism. Poor design and poor quality parts. There is no way to get it to stop leaking and over flowing the bowl. Too bad as I had high hopes for this one.I just ordered from another manufacturer (non Amazon) and will update with details if it works out.

This is the perfect waterer for dogs. There are no plastic parts to rot in the sun/heat (or other weather), as other waterers have. It is very durable. This is the second we've owned; the prior lasted 8+ years with practically zero maintenance. The only downside is that we had to purchase a special adapter so that our hose could be connected (the hose and the waterer's connector are both "male" ends), but this was no big deal -- just ordered the needed part from Amazon and it was here in 2 days. I would highly recommend this waterer to anyone considering an outside automatic waterer for their dogs.

The connection to the hose leaks. Tried Teflon tape with no luck. However, it does keeps water available at all times for my dog when she is outside.
