Works well, comfortable chicks.
Arrive quickly, well packaged. Unit looks nice, and contains mounting hardware. Generous power cord length provided. Yes the unit does emit a noticeable smell when first powered up. I placed it outside and powered it up, issue solved. I may have left it powered up for a couple days. Chicks responded well to heater. I am considering purchasing a second.

Great!
This worked great for my chicken’s first winter and gave me a lot of peace of mind. After running it to get rid of the smell, I hung it in the coop even before I needed to turn it on so they could get comfortable with something new overhead. I turned it on once it was below 20 degrees. They would roost directly under it and seemed to be comfortable with the output. It raised the temperature directly below the heater only and not the entire coop, which I understood is how it’s intended to work. I hope this is long lasting but I highly recommend and would buy again if I had to.

Ultimately, piece of mind is what led me to this purchase.
I have a 10' x 12' wood shed in which I converted exactly half of to a chicken brooder / grow out pen. It'll more than likely be used solely as a grow out pen after the chicks spend their initial 2 weeks of life in a GQF universal brooder. In the past, as most everyone does, I used those red light heat lamps with both 175 watt and 250 watt bulbs. I never have been a fan of them not only because of the potential for fire but because it's always high noon in the pen for the chicks. I mean they never have darkness just blazing light 24/7 and that just can't be good for them. The fire risk is probably the top reason for me switching to this Sweeter Heater though as our immediate neighbor's barn burned to the ground because of (as far as anyone can discern) one of those red light heat lamps. Complete loss of animal life as well as all their farm equipment and what all.The attached power cord is right close to 5' in length and the unit turns on immediately upon plugging it into power - there is no on/ off switch nor is there any sort of light (or other indication) that it's on. It comes with two separate lengths of chain in which to hang it and they are each only about 2' in length. Do yourself a favor and buy chain and some of those 1.5" spring snap hooks size and some Forney 70421 double loop 3mm chain (or similar). After having it plugged in for 3 hrs, I used my handheld infrared thermometer and measured around 77 degrees on top of the heater and ranging from 180 to 198 degrees on the underside. I had it placed 6" off the ground and was reading between 90 and 95 degrees on the shavings themselves. As mentioned by loads of other reviewers, it emits one heck of an odor for about the first 24 hrs then diminishes and I'd say at 72 hrs there's no odor at all. The odor is kind of a hot plastic meets model airplane glue type of smell.I bought the largest one they offer (40") and I'd say it can quite comfortably keep ~25 three week old chicks warm without having them too crowded together. I keep one end raised up about 2" higher than the other which gives the chicks the option of various temps to lay under. All in all, a solid option if looking to rid yourself of the red heat lamps and, depending on what size you get, operates at less than half the wattage. These things are a tad pricey but being able to go to sleep without the worry of a fire, it's worth it in my opinion.

I can rest knowing they are safe and cozy!
I wasn't looking to spend over $50 on a heater for my chickens but after reading all the reviews of other kinds of heaters, within my original price range, that burnt down coops, I felt this was my safest option. I am so glad I took a risk with price over safety! This product is outstanding! I live in Minnesota where our winter nights average -25F but can get to be -40F, or worse, and my 10 hens are all nearing 7 and 6 years old. Our 8x4x12'ish coop is only partially insulated on the roof area and their run is wrapped with plastic around it during winter months, making it only 10-15 degrees warmer. I felt I needed something more for my girls to be cozy dozy at night. I have used heat lamps with the red bulb at night, but it seemed I had more pecking/bullying going on and I constantly thought about fire safety because of all the hay and dust that is naturally around. I have used small space heater fans that had an auto shut off but they would still add too much heat. This year I just wanted to feel good for once and for all about my chickens' safety and well being. This has been a great purchase! It does not get too hot at all and adds just enough to take out the chill. My chickens can easily roost under or near it if they want and it is quiet, dark(no light emits from it), and of incredible quality! The biggest plus is that its truly safe with nothing or no one able to get burned by it. I am sooo excited that I found this product! I am so very thankful for the person/s who thought of this design and went ahead and created it to sell. THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE AN AWESOME GENIUS!! God bless you!!! I left it plugged in/running all winter long, as soon as the temps at night dropped below -18. I left it on all day and all night, even though the girls spend most of the day out in run with other winter barriers. I didn't notice any major dip in our electric bill. I am very thankful for this product.
