Scheherazade (Dover Orchestral Music Scores)

A great score for a great work
This is Dover's printing of the full, orchestral score of Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. It is a bit overwhelming. Rimksky-Korsakov was a master of orchestration and orchestral color and his main theme, at once stated by the trombones is the basis for all the rest odf this 40 minute piece. It's true his variations are not very well hidden but his coloring is incredible and this score lets you see them as well as hear them. I find myself following a different instrument in the orchestra each time I use it. See, kids, reading can be fun! ha ha This will not be a waste to your wallet or take up shelf space without being useful.

What You Are Really hearing
I buy these scores strictly as an amateur. I can't even read music very well. But I find them invaluable in trying to work through the structure of music that I love. So for that purpose, this is perfect. I seriously doubt these scores would be of use for any purpose other than private study, but for that they are perfect.

Excellent study score
RK's Scheherazade is an important work for orchestral arranging students; not to mention a fun listen. This edition is full score, clear print, nice size, flexible binding, and stands up well to color pencils.

Wrong Selection.
NOT THE DOVER EDITION! I wanted the full score, but this edition by Kalmus is a piano reduction. Not that the score is wrong or bad, but I wanted the full piece. Alas, for some reason, Amazon sends you this when you order the Dover. Be warned.

Excellent
No issues. Clean, clear print, exactly what I ordered. I'll definitely buy from Dover again, as their prices can not be beat for orchestral scores.

Five Stars
Very nice score, like all Dover scores. The spelling of Nicolai, spelt Nicolay here is a little awkward.

Perfect for Explaining the Orchestra
As expected, a wonderful teaching aid. It lays out - in clear, easy-to-follow, full symphonic score - countless examples of diverse orchestration. Scheherazade is one of the best scores to explain the orchestra to students. I use it for piano students, from the age of nine, to broaden their musical understanding, and to build their sight-reading skill and confidence. The delivery service (from London to Australia) was outstanding.Thank you
