Rock Steady: Healing Vertigo or Tinnitus with Neuroplasticity

Highly recommend
Wonderful and encouraging information and practices to help reduce and reframe tinnitus symptoms. The book discusses how we can utilize our brain's neoroplasticity to heal distress over natural body sounds so we can stop fearing and diminish or even heal tinnitus conditions over time. A comforting and potentially transformative book from a kind and soothing author. I can say as a tinnitus sufferer it's been a welcomed relief to find this book!

highly recommend!
I do not usually write reviews, but thought this one warranted it. I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, going on nearly 30 years now. Nine months ago, I developed very problematic and anxiety producing uni-lateral tinnitus. I have been struggling through the habituation (a term the author does not use) process since then. I first tried the most popular Audiologist approach of TRT (tinnitus retraining therapy). The in-ear sound level noise, put through a very costly hearing aid device, did not do it for me. It was promoted as the best solution for those struggling with troublesome tinnitus. Sometimes it seemed to help soften the anxiety promoting sensations, but quite often seemed to make it worse. I stumbled onto this Rock Steady book in my ongoing research for help.I have found this to be the best source I have read. It is full of very encouraging, sound, comforting material. During my first read, admittedly being a little skeptical of how useful this "touchy-feely" approach would be, I realized that there is a lot of wisdom in here. So I went back through it with a hi-liter to mark significant helpful thoughts and ideas of the author. After reading the book a second time, I realized I had marked nearly 3/4 of the book. For me, the best of the book was its cognitive-behavioral content and the science of neuroplasticity. Admittedly, based upon my vocation as a CBT therapist, I am drawn to the proven rational side of things. And this book is full of that. In fact, I felt just reading through it and meditating on healing through neuroplasticity was very therapeutic and helped me reach the next stage of habituation in my journey. For me, I am not so drawn to the Yoga/body scan approach to her practical methodology of how to achieve neuroplastic changes in the brain, but again, to the cognitive rational part of her message. Could say much more but will stop there. I would highly recommend this book for anyone going through "troublesome" tinnitus, which I believe is nothing more or less than an anxiety disorder, as most who develop tinnitus, are not particularly troubled by it. Seems unfair! Oh well... the author would challenge such a thought.

This Book is a Game Changer
I began this process as a sceptic. It was challenging for me to absorb the concept of neuroplasticity . Creating neuron pathways that never existed before---through thought and practice no less? But as I thought more about it, I began to realize that 'mind over matter' resonated with me as did the notion or idea of 'placebo effect'. So I decided to give this a genuine chance. I signed up for the Rock Steady program which included 6 modules. Over a 12-week period of time I gave each and every module a good go. I practiced and remained open minded throughout. While not at all a linear process, I did notice positive changes in my NQR's ('not quite right' feelings)....some dramatic and others subtle. All in all I noted marked changes as I began to 'be with' the dizziness that's already been a part of my life for nearly a decade. For heaven's sake I did feel neuron pathways expand and reinvent. I felt more at peace with myself and less afraid. A few months later I began reading Joey's "Rock Steady: Healing Vertigo or Tinnitus with Neuroplasticity". This was a joy to read from start to finish. The tone of the book is welcoming--the concepts explored are done so with warmth and encouragement. And while I can absolutely see reading this book prior to (or never) participating in the week-long or 12-week program, reading it afterwards worked for me. More than anything I walk away from this only to realize that I'm not walking away from anything! I'm emerging. And with the support of the Rock Steady community, I'm continuing to view this as a life-long journey with more adventures ahead. Only now (thanks to this book, the online programs) I have a pocket full of techniques and tools. Thank-you Joey and Rock Steady community!

It is an amazing resource to have!
This book is a great resource to have if you are dealing with tinnitus and vertigo. It is filled with definitions, case studies and exercises that can help you feel better and get more in control of your life. Especially helpful if you have limited access to your doctors or they don't have much information on the why you are feeling this way.

Didn't work for me
I started in the book, never finished it. The method puts way too much emphasis on hearing the tinnitus sounds. Maybe that is helpful for beginners, new sufferers, but I've had tinnitus since 2009 so I already learnt to not let it be overly present. This book had me focus on it which seemingly made it worse as I was now suddenly constantly aware of the noise in my head.I love working with neuroplasticity, but I prefer to use Dr Joe Dispenza's method for that. Plenty of free material of that on YouTube or on his site.I know many benefitted from this rock steady method, but for me it was a waste of money. And cost me time & energy to get back to where I was before reading in it and following her online: having tinnitus but not letting it bother me.I'm currently getting treatment from a cranio-facial therapist that often is successful with tinnitus alleviation or healing. The tinnitus is mostly in neck & shoulder muscles that are way too tight after 2 accidents. Her treatment fills me with hope where the rock steady method didn't do anything for me but make it (seemingly) worse. If you're new to it or the cause is different for you, this might work. For me it was a waste of money and time.

Maravilloso
