The Cramps emerged out of the first wave of punk music in the mid 1970's, frequenting clubs such as CBGB. Led by husband and wife team Lux Interior and Poison Ivy, this garage 'psychobilly' band incorporated a unique flair for fusing camp, Link Wray-inspired riffs, B-movies, and bizarre performances. Gravest Hits was their debut EPfeatured the single 'Human Fly. ' The original red cover hasn't been available since it was released in 1979.The classic black cover corresponds to the 200g black vinyl. Mastered for vinyl by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio Faithful, updated rendering of original jacket printed at Stoughton Printing Co.

Almost Perfect Debut for The Cramps
This is the perfect introduction to The Cramps, featuring clever lyrics and over-the-top, ghoulish lead vocals from Lux Interior on the all-too-short '50s horror-movie spoof "Human Fly" ("Baby I don't care, I'm just a reborn maggot using germ warfare"). Their rockabilly influence was never more evident than on the slow and saucy "The Way I Walk" (with guitars so sharp they slice their way through the song) or the rousing "Domino".This EP would be perfect were it not for a cover of The Trashmen's 1964 oddity "Surfin' Bird". Let's face it, there's only so much one can do with a song like this, and while the band stays true to the original, it rambles with lots of noisy guitar feedback for the last few minutes and goes on endlessly and needlessly. The sorrowful "Lonesome Town" closes on a high note, however, with Lux snivelling his way through the self-pitiful lyrics.Still, for a debut album, The Cramps nail it from the opening note of "Gravest Hits" and definitely leave the listener wanting more. If you like this, you will definitely love the follow-up " Songs the Lord Taught Us ", perhaps their best album ever."Gravest Hits" is not available as a stand-alone CD; instead it's partnered with 1981's Gravest Hits & Psychedelic Jungle
