if you like Rudyard Kipling you will love this book
. I read volumes of Kipling poetry and short stories but over looked what is said to be his masterpiece. It is his masterpiece! No one does Inja under the British occupation the ole Roger. He was born in Inja and never left in his mind. Now if you are a PC type, you will surely be offended by Kipling's view of WOGS brown beggars etc...but if you are up for a First Rate tale of espionage, intrigue, and adventure (plus a very cool ole Lama) by all means read it.

Loyalty, Love, and Adventure
Kim is a book to be read and reread, the very best of Kipling's books, with some of them also being memorable. Kim is beyond a coming of age book; it is about the love developed among human beings, unlikely bonding, and incredible adventures as we attempt to uncover who we are.

An amazing snapshot of Indian-British relations during the end of the 19th century.
I read Christopher Hitchens's review of Rudyard Kipling in his book Love, Poverty, and War: Journeys and Essays, and I decided to go to the source. Kipling's portrayal of the characters are entirely multi-dimensional, making them relatable in our commonality but we can fully understand their intentions with the character development we are provided. The dialogue, if one is unfamiliar with the dialect, slang, and 19th century British English, can be difficult to follow upon first passing, but the story-line is very easy to follow. I would not compare this to contemporary literature as it is simply too different to the current literary style, different literary objectives and exposition, and very different contemporary (19th century Indian-British English) dialogue. However, if you want to get an understanding of Rudyard Kipling's writing, if you want to see the relationship as described by a contemporary of the Indian colony and its colonizers, or simply want to enjoy a well written story from late 19th century British literature, this book will not disappoint.

I couldn’t finish this book
I know I should have liked this book and I wanted to complete it. However, after making it half way through I found I didn’t care what happened to Kim. I lost interest. If you want a great short story by Kipling try “The Cat that Walked by Himself”.

Toda esta serie es fantástica para introducir a la lectura en inglés. Habría que dárselo a todos los niños que ya tienen nivel de inglés y a muchos adultos también. Este libro es una joya de la literatura universal y se lo recomiendo a todxs.

Childhood revisited!!
I first read Kim when I was about 7 years old and have been fascinated by India and the English involvement for over 300 years. I was recently fortunate enough to be able to travel in India, visiting several of the cities mentioned in the book and having the book to read again has been a joy. As a snapshot of India in Kipling's time it is excellent and it is suprising how much can still be related to modern India. Readers of Kim might also enjoy the book by V S Naipal " India; a million mutinies now"

KIM
