Quality Importers Desktop Humidor, Capri, with Tempered Glasstop, Cedar Divider, and Brass Ring Glass Hygrometer, Holds 25 to 50 Cigars, Black

This style of humidor is sold pretty much everywhere that sells humidors and I've heard that it is a great beginner humidor. Also I've noticed some of these places/ sites mention that due to manufacturing changes or what not, actual humidor details might vary slightly. Which leads into my rating and review after owning for one day. I might add on to this review and perhaps change my rating once I have it seasoned and used it for a bit.Okay, I gave 3 stars from my first impression right out of the box. This is my first humidor so I'm not sure if my concerns and review are even relevant to the performance and functionality of the humidor.OUTSIDEThe mahogany wood outside is pretty nice. Very elegant looking.HYGROMETERThe analog hygrometer is smaller than pictured, just under one and a half inches in diameter, and the face is different. However, it seems to work. Within minutes of opening the lid the hygrometer is already adjusting itself. I'll upgrade to digital soon and compare. And not sure if it needs to be calibrated but will probably find out after the comparison.INSIDEDoes it seal well? First thing I looked for was the Sure Seal Technology seal which is pictured to be under the lid at the bottom right. Mine didn't have that. Then I began to inspect the how well the box seals. Giving it the lid drop test, it does give a "whoosh" sound when the lid is let go and closes like a good sealed humidor should. But after inspecting it, it seems only the front wood lip on the lid is making that light contact with the box aiding in that proper sound. Both left and right side do not make contact, extremely close but no cigar..hehe.CONTENTSCame with the round humidifier which I WILL be upgrading to the Boveda system. And came with the divider. No engravable name plate as stated in the description. No biggie, wasn't going to use it anyway. Also NO INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CARE OR SEASON THIS THING! Again no biggie, that thing called the inter-webs and YouTube learned me just fine.SEASONINGFrom all the things I've read and videos I've watched it seems to be pretty straightforward on seasoning the humidor. Just because I know who ever is reading this is dying to know the method I took, I guess I'll tell ya. I am only on day 1 but I did wipe the inside down with a distilled water damp sponge, soaked the humidifier in the distilled water until it was ready, and then placed both inside on a plastic baggie to let sit overnight. The hygrometer was climbing from around 50 which shows that it was working. I'll repeat the process for the next 3 days or so or until it holds the humidity at the proper level.Overall it is a really nice looking humidor and reasonably priced. I have faith in this lil bastard. Ill update once I've used it for a bit and hopefully 5 star this sumbiscuit.**UPDATE** 06/24/20155 Stars, Seasoning was easy, thanks to YouTube. Currently I have roughly 30 cigars inside and humidity is holding between 68-72. Love it.

This is a very attractive humidor. It has an expensive look and blends in well with my office furniture. Also, it is heavier than expected and feels as if it is very well made. The gold analog hygrometer adds a nice accent to this piece.I researched this item quite a bit on Amazon and on other web sites before ordering it and so far all of the negative reviews about it maitaining the proper humidity level have proven to be false (at least for the one I received). When it came in the first thing I did was test the seal and it passed both tests (search the internet for details on how to do this- there is a dollar bill test and a test you do by letting the lid slam shut- if the seal is good you hear a pleasant swoosh rather than wood slaming down). I also did a calibration test on the hygrometer and it was low by only 2%. I chose not to adjust it. 24 hours after seasoing the interior and charging the humidifier it read 65%. After another 24 hours it read 70%. Its been almost a week and it is still maintaining 70% humitity level (which is actually 72%).The only con to this unit thus far is it only comes with one divider. Since the humidor is much larger than I anticipated I plan to keep a variety of cigars in it so I will need to fabricate more dividers to stop the cigars from marrying. Considering how much I saved compared to my local smoke shop the few dollars it will cost to have some dividers fabricated is not a big issue.Update: After another week or so the humidor is still maintaining the humidity level. I went 5 days without opening the unit the humidity level dropped to 68%. I checked the humidifier and it was drying out a little. 12 hours after recharging it the humidor is back at 70%.Update #2: I ordered 20 cigars from an online store and put them in the humidor and after one week the humidor is maintaining a steady 72%. I purchased a digital hygrometer and verified that it is accurate using the salt test. I highly recommend this to anyone who purchases this humidor for two reasons. The digital hygrometer responds immediately whereas the analog one takes up to an hour to register changes and if you are going to spend $100's on cigars its good to have a second hygrometer in case one breaks.One important note, the humidifier that came with the unit was not maintaining the humidity level by itself. This probably because I have been running the heater in my home and the humidity in the room is 40%. I was using a homemade humidifier (small plastic jar with the green sponge like material used in floral arrangements) but recently added a jar of jell beads I purchased from a cigar shop. Also, the analog hygrometer that came installed is still reading exactly 2% low so it appears to be working fine.The only negative comment I have at this point is the humidor will probably only hole 20-25 cigars once you add the two humidifiers and hygrometer; however, I still rate it as a 5. The attractiveness, usefulness and price make this a five star deal!

Complicated calibratingDoesn’t read correctly. 30% lower than normal. Need to buy new hydrometer with its purchase. Other than that really solid box

Arrived carefully packed and even handled well, hats off to the seller and Amazon!The product had a good finish and seals well. I did not go through the pain of setting up the humidifier and instead just added a Boveda pack, that should take care of it.4 stars because the analog hygrometer seems to be stuck, I have ordered a digital hygrometer.

El olor de la madera es increíble, el departamento huele riquísimo a la madera, es muy bonito, lo dí como obsequio y estuvo genial. En efecto se tiene que tener alma e alquimista para estar regulando la humedad, pero eso nos encanta, es como una plantita a la que hay que cuidar. Lo recomiendo.
