Excellent Tool
Ive gardened professionally for 15 years and this hand tool is the best. Its blades are sharp, the handle is long, and the tool is heavy enough to move dirt. Super durable and worth the extra $10 all day.

Best hand-cultivator/multi-tool for gardening!
As a landscape professional I rely on the Kakuri cultivator on a daily basis. Great design and build. Last one lasted at least 5-7 years with tough use. DO NOT buy the bulky, heavy, poorly designed alternatives!

Great tool!
Size is perfect for small to medium garden work, like in my raised beds, to prep or get in close for some hoeing/cultivating. Strong enough to chop through finger-sized roots or dig small irrigation ditches in semi-stoney ground. Blade and tines don't bend. The head on mine was not loose, and fit perfectly. The tightening wedge does protrude a bit, but it has to in order to allow for tightening over time. If it was flush, no adjustment could be had. I'd buy it again, so do recommend it.

Mind your shims.
Sadly I will give a one star for the exact reason as stated in this earlier review and I enclose a picture for illustration. I have another brand, Hachiemon, that is great but in using these, the very first strokes in the ground the metal shim popped right off. Surprised at the lack of quality control. The Hachiemon has a metal component piece at the top which keeps it well in place but these feel cheap. Will be returning it.“When I unpackaged the hoe cultivator I was surprised to see the steel wedge (used to expand the handle to the cultivator casting) sticking so far out of the handle. Then I realized they never drove the wedge into the handle so the casting came right off the handle. I was on the fence about sending it back but I had purchased it to get some work done before winter set in so I decided to keep it and make the necessary corrections. I would recommend to shop around for another brand if you were looking to purchase a hoe cultivator.”

Some assembly may be required.
Quality is good but not great, quality control would earn one star. When I unpackaged the hoe cultivator I was surprised to see the steel wedge (used to expand the handle to the cultivator casting) sticking so far out of the handle. Then I realized they never drove the wedge into the handle so the casting came right off the handle. I was on the fence about sending it back but I had purchased it to get some work done before winter set in so I decided to keep it and make the necessary corrections. I would recommend to shop around for another brand if you were looking to purchase a hoe cultivator.

It's compact, but works great!
For women, the weight, size, thickness of the blade, and thickness of the handle of this hoe are just right for ease of use. Before use, the wedge at the top of the hoe needs to be driven in slightly to secure it. As the hoe loosens during use, drive the wedge in again to secure it. This is a common adjustment method for Japanese farming and carpentry tools. This is a sturdy tool that can be used for a long time with care.

Quality has declined
Purchased one of these last year and it was great. Sadly lost my original and ordered a replacement, and the replacement is noticeably lower quality than the one I purchased before:- Like others have pointed out, the pin which secures the head to the handle protrudes from the top of the tool. The head is less secure, and the pin is sharp and hazardous. This was not the case on the tool I purchased last year- The tines on the cultivator side of the head are not evenIt seems they have recently changed the way these are built, and the quality of the product has taken a nosedive as a result. Shoppers who judge the product based on 1+ year old reviews beware.
