The Brown Horsehide Leather A-2 Bomber Jacket with Escape Map Lining is a modern-day take on the classic A-2. The original A-2 specs, DWC30-1415 of Sept. 1930, called for horsehide to be the required material for the jacket. Our version, which is based largely on the current USAF-issue A-2 pattern, is made from premium horsehide leather which is very tough & durable yet very supple. The leather features naturally-occurring range marks which gives the jacket added character. The leather is also designed to age more rapidly than ordinary horsehide to give the jacket that desirable "broken-in" look. The Brown Horsehide Leather A-2 Bomber Jacket with Escape Map Lining also features our exclusive WWII Escape Map nylon lining, which is an authentic reproduction of a British Bartholomew Northern France/England escape map that was issued to Allied pilots who flew in the European Theatre during WWII. We feel this jacket is the perfect amalgam of classic A-2 style & practicality and modern functionality & comfort! Made in the USA. Note: This jacket, like the original WWII version, does NOT have side-entry hand warmer pockets. The Brown Horsehide Leather A-2 Bomber Jacket with Escape Map Lining features 100% Naked Horsehide Leather, snap-down collar, underarm gussets and side panels, stitched-down epaulets, 2 interior pockets, front cargo pockets, Mil-spec brass zipper, One-piece back, WWII Escape Map nylon lining, and Knit cuffs & waistband. History of the A-2: The Type A-2 flying jacket was standardized by the U.S. Army Air Corps as the successor to the Type A-1 flying jacket in 1931. The A-2 has sturdy snaps and reinforced pockets, a snap down shirt-style collar that could be closed completely in order to protect the pilot from the wind. In addition, it replaced the A-1′s buttoned front with a zipper for added protection against the elements in the open cockpit. NOTE: A signature upon delivery is required for this item.
