how does this compare to the 3800 in terms of reliability?

Not sure about 3800 but I bought 3 8500s and boy am I sorry I did. Nothing but problems with two of them. One of them I can not get any of my remotes to work with it. Costumer service is horrible. Was told every reason you can think of that i was doing  something wrong even though I programmed all 3 of them no problem when they were new. No I have one that goes up for no reason and won’t leave you put it back down until you unplug it for a couple hours then plug it back in so now it is unplugged and I open the door manually because I can’t trust it. Love them when the worked but didn’t last long

It comes with the Opener, Collar w/Set Screws (To connect Opener to Torsion Bar), Mounting Bracket to Fasten Opener to Wall, Cable Tension Monitor w/Wire, The Protector System Safety Reversing Sensors (2) w/Wires, Power Door Lock w/Wire & Connector and Template, Safety Reversing Sensor Brackets (2), Door Control (MyQ Control Panel), w/Wire, 3-Button Premium Remote Control Model & Visor Clip and a Bag of Various Hardware to mount/install the above noted items.  Pretty much everything you need, unless you have some unusual conditions at your walls or Torsion Spring Assembly.  You can always (and should) download the Installation Manual to confirm it will fit where you want it?

Question 3

I had this professionally installed, the right cable has slipped off twice in 1 week. What might the cause of the slippage be?  Installer is clueless.

I can guess the cable drum is not in the correct position. If cable is loose when door is closed, the drum set screws can be loosened and the drum rotated on the torsion tube to remove the slack from the cable and the set screws retightened.If the cable comes off as the door is raised the drum is probably not aligned above the cable lift point on the door. The drum is moved to the appropriate position as above.I do agree with the previous reply about the installer being incompetent and to find another.I do not agree with the statement that the unit is not a good one. I have no problem with mine.

Does it come with power door lock included

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a power door lock. Once the garage door is lowered, the unit shuts down and a bolt locks it closed. When the door is to be lifted, a bolt retracts. Is this the power door lock you're referring to? If not, there is no other electronics except the normal wired control panel for manual operation and programming.
