this book is not so easily accessible to the lay-people
Contrary to what is written about this book by the author, the publisher, or academics, this book is not so easily accessible to the lay-people. The book may appeal to the mathematically inclined. It reads like a list of mathematicians who have impacted academia, which could have been accomplished on one page.

This is a great book. It is so fun to have all ...
This is a great book. It is so fun to have all of this interesting mathematics combined with stories about the mathematicians who discovered it. Just the story of Ramanujan is worth every moment of this book. However learning about Emmy Noether is fascinating too. In fact all of the characters are great to learn about and to hear the kinds of work they did is amazing in one place. Also to hear about the difficulties some had to endure but came through anyway was important to learn about.

learn from legends
This book is ideal for the ones who wants to learn the critical concepts in historical order with their inventors. This is more than learning from the stories, rather aligning the stars in the historical time-line.

Excellent mathematical biographies
It is relaxing learning what different mathematicians life and work have in common and not in common. Some we know the name and glimpses of the biography from other sources, but reading all together was really interesting.

Great book for math lovers!
The book by Ian Stewart is very well written. This version has nice font, in bigger size and hence easier to read than the mass market version.
