By Manchester’s greatest realist writing today. Part of the Manchester trilogy.

Drudgery, exhilaration
Drudgery and indignity of dull jobs, futility of a writer's aspirations, drink, drab sex, solitude. Yet somehow momentum and exhilaration in the narrative from somewhere. Bukowski is an easy point of comparison, but also a pervasively mancunian tableau. Precise locations pin it there, but the truths are general.
