Direct replacment for Silverado 2008
It was a direct replacemnt for driver side lock acutator for Silverado 2008 LS. I was surprised with one more lock linkage as compared to the passenger door, but it worked fine. The added cost for the Dorman part was worth it, inorder to have to get into the door panel only once.

Locks Work Again
I installed this in a 2008 Yukon. The Yukons and Tahoes have a known problem with the automatic locks. They stop working and the dealership wants $400 to fix each door. I decided to fix it myself. Installation was not easy because of working in the tight door space and having to attach two rods to the lock actuator. With luck I got them both attached, it only took 1/2 hour. Now the locks work fine.

Sticky Mess
Looks good on the website, but doesn't function the way it should. This product fit my 2008 Tahoe exactly as described and installation was exactly as expected, but after a few days, I started feeling a hitch in the door handle, unsure of what it was. After a few weeks, when closing the door, it would occasionally bounce off the door jamb a time or two before actually catching and securing the door in the closed position. Finally, less than a month after it was installed, the door closed and latched after bouncing off the jamb a few times, then it would not open again from inside or out. I was stuck with a shut door I could not get into to even investigate. The inside door handle connects to a cable which pulls a lever on the actuator opening the door. This lever became stuck in the pulled out position, which wouldn't allow the exterior handle to operate either. I had to wait a few hours before the stuck mechanism became freed up against it's spring loaded open position. Once it released back to it's original position, I was able to open the door, remove the door panel and begin my investigation. Eventually, I narrowed the problem to the actuator and after it was removed again, found the stuck lever indicated. I oiled it and it immediately began working properly. There's no way to tell how long this oil will remain effective. I'm expecting to remove the door panel and spray some type of greasy garage door spray at the problem area on a regular monthly basis. I guess time and feel of the now known problem will tell. Either way, It's an unfortunate mess that I shouldn't be forced to regularly maintain going forward. I'm not happy about this purchase.

Very easy to replace.
If you own a GM vehicle than chances are all of these have gone bad on your car. All 4 burned out on my 2009 Tahoe due it a cheap 20 cent made in China electric motor inside this lock unit, of course it's nearly impossible to replace just the bad electric motor, it's just easier to replace the entire actuator. It is quite easy to replace this actuator, it's about a 30 minute job with common tools, there are plenty of videos on You tube outlining the replacement step by step. This Dorman unit looks identical to the factory unit that was in the car, I trust they put a higher quality electric motor inside.Update: Purchased 5/5/2015, unit died 4/18/2017(still manually works, power motor inside died...as usual) , it has a lifetime warranty so Amazon is sending a replacement(Thank You Amazon)...we'll see how long the replacement lasts....The GM ones are even worse on quality, they barely last more than a year and I don't believe they have a lifetime warranty...I'm beginning to believe this is a bad design by GM.

Quit working correctly.
Worked great for about a month then developed a "catch" when you pull the handle to open the door. The latch piece at the end of the cable has a spot where it will catch and not release the latch. This causes the door to be unable to open. Unable to return item. I should have kept my old one since it worked except for the power lock.Shortly after my initial review I put some Vaseline on the latch and worked it for a bit and the "catch" now seems to be gone. I will keep an eye on it now.

2009 GMC Yukon drivers side front door latch and and actuator
Bought this to replace defective one in my truck. great product at a great price. there are some external differences from the oem but these are visual only. fits right in, weight wise it feels the same as the stock unit. considering you are replacing one made in China product with another, I don't see the logic for paying the GM markup for oem. the value added is just not there. here in Canada, the dealer wanted $239 +TX for the part, you can do the math.

not as advertised
it said it was and exacted fit and it does fit in the spot fine but it dose not have the child safety switch on it.and there is no way to take it off the old one and install it on the new one without drilling out the rivets and turning it into a major project.sofar it works ok but I have no way of stopping my 3 year old from opening the door while the vehicle is moving thats a big problem

replaced the factory part perfectly.
Inexpensive, easy to install and works perfectly. A lot cheaper than having it done at a dealership. Easy step by step instructions on removing the old and installing the new. Took about an hour.

Failed within 6 months
Bought this lock in April of 2019. By July I was having issues with door not closing and found the lock was hanging up. By December 23, the latch failed altogether, with me inside. Door would not open from inside or outside. Once it did open, the latch would no longer close... Needless to say, if it were not for needing my truck over the holidays (and only being able to get this one again in time for the holidays), I would not have purchased another Dorman product.
