Mastering pfSense -: Get more from the "world's most popular open-source firewall"

Mostly a feature walk-through
A large portion of this book is the author just walking you through what's available without much focus on solving specific problems. There is some of that In the latter portion of the book - but not enough to justify the price in my opinion.

Purchased the book thinking it actually can show you advanced features and provide examples of advanced PFSense configurations. This book offers no additional instruction beyond what you already receive from a simple google search of PFsense basic setup instructions. This book isn't worth the price and there is nothing in it to make you a "master" of PFSense. Buyer beware.

If you have or are looking into pfSense for advanced home use, this is a great resource.
If you have or are looking into pfSense for advanced home use, this is a great resource.I am in IT, but I am not interested in commercial networking, so I cannot speak to if this book would be helpful to an advanced networking person using pfSense in a commercial environment.I'm glad I purchased and would buy this again.

Essential reading if you are thinking of using pfsense
A very good book that gives a partial detailed review of pfsense. I struggled to find detailed information on pfsense without this book. The book takes you step by step from first installation through the use of the various areas that pfsense covers. Such as setting up your connection to the WAN, use of VLANS,Some of the book does get repetitive (first from the console, then from the webgui) and I did struggle to understand how some of it will work (for instance how to bridge one VLAN to another), how to get several VLANs to talk to a printer on another VLAN.After reading the book I was fairly confident pfsense would do what I wanted, but in the end I went for a commercial secure router (as opposed to a home router), and probably saved some money as well.If you are thinking of using pfsense as your router then you will need to read a book like this before you commit. Pfsense is very sophisticated but consequently not easy to use.
